hmmm just saw the gaga video - or part of it. i guess we may be talking about here here because she is one of the music industry heavies, and an influence? for Adam.
i have to say gaga for me is a demnstration of success far far greater than talent.
She has talent, yes, but iIMHO not so much.
Her voice is strong but monotone and unlayered. Her images in her videos are familiar. And she really cant dance. MArry the night is a profoundly generic song.
Yet, i admire her ability to show us what it takes to put your voice out there. She has thrust. Plain simple agentic drive.
I dont think its even a question of self esteem. Im not sure her self esteem is that high
She just "goes for it". And uses every resource she has.

Brings back memories. I was at the Milwaukee show with my 19 year old daughter. We had already seen GNT together at Mystic Lake and were lucky to witness Broken Open there. We both really enjoyed the atmosphere and excitement. When Adam reclined out on the stairs during the Milwaukee show, my daughter turned to me with raised eyebrows and a funny grin. She is planning to see another show with me when he tours again, needless to say.

So I didn't get past the first 4 min but what exactly is this terrific feat. Correct me if I'm wrong but narrative music vids have been done plenty of times before. I'll name a few. "Thriller" by MJ, "All I Want Is You" by U2, Moody Blues, The Beatles and hell even the Monkees did narrative story videos. I'll go back and try to watch the thing again once I've seen if someone can give me some kind of summary of what is supposed to be going on because what I saw made no sense to me and I was bored. The early days of music videos which actually started probably before video itself were basically mini movies based around the songs. By the time MTV rolled around music videos were starting to become either straight performance vids or totally abstract creations that had nothing to do with the song itself. I've liked some of Gaga's videos but she is by no means the most creative ever and I have yet to see something really groundbreaking. I don't understand what rules she is breaking or what boundaries of time and genre are you saying she is breaking. I personally was not captured by this seeing as how this is the first time I've not even finished a Gaga video. This is of course only my opinion of MY viewing experience. I think her album is solid but doesn't live up to what SHE claimed. It is certainly not in my opinion the greatest pop album around. I preferred The Fame and don't feel she showed much growth or advancement as an artist on this album. As for her personally, I have no idea what or who she is as a person because I don't feel like I've ever seen anything from her that wasn't an act. She's not an artist that I follow and while I appreciate that she has talent she's not moved beyond that of a curiosity for me because nothing I've seen from her has captured me enough to be interested in learning more. I'm more interested in a music video being entertaining and engaging and I personally like them to have something to do with the song. I really don't care if Adam makes the most ground breaking video I just want it to entertain me. all OT: ha... I lasted (my usual for non-Adam) 20 secs...did not even get to the music and had to turn it off... I am sure it is my loss, but it started making me sick, the commentary on the nurses was cheap - so I decided to pass... rihannsu - your other love - Bono of U2- was on the Daily Show last night - I am sure you know So, finally I saw Bono "in person" and I still maintain that he looks like Robin Williams He was promoting a great cause ( World AIDS Day) and came across as a very pleasant person. He did have a strange accent - I could not place it. If not for your passion I would not have known who he was :-[ - so, thank you! ...going to get ready to go out and meet visiting ladies from AWOP - very excited! #majorbertingopportunity ! Yes, he and Robin joke about how they are morphing in to one being. Bono has a Dublin accent, that is what is left of it. I think he has traveled the globe so much that he has picked up bits and pieces of accent from everywhere. He is a natural mimic and tends to speak like those he has spent the most time with recently. When they were touring America for the Joshua Tree album his security guard was a Texan and Bono sounded sort of John Wayne for a good bit of the tour with a few Irish words thrown in here of there. He is an incredible storyteller and an extremely intelligent guy. The best book out there for getting a good feel for Bono is by Michka Assayas called "Bono: In Conversation". It is basically a series of conversations the Michka put together so it really feels like you are sitting in the room with him talking. I would love for someone to do this kind of thing with Adam down the road. ETA: The reason we started discussing Gaga was because Adam tweeted in anticipation of the video so it's not totally out of left field. I'm curious as to the fact that Adam has not tweeted a comment on it though. Possibly he is just busy in the studio however.

I find Adam to be quite authentic in his tweets about music - for example sometimes hell adverstise something for a friend but not go on and say how great it was and i wonder if its because he doesnt think its that great. glad he still supports people in theri efforts even then!

Umm, a little off topic, but Lady Gaga's video leaked on JustJared, not Perez. Hmmm, I thought P always got her stuff first. No big deal, but yay! for Jared. he seems like a good guy.

Well I just watched the Gaga vid Marry the night....whether you like Gaga or not, she is one imaginative and brilliant artist. This is a terriific feat and may possibly be the beginning of a new genre of narrative/music vid....would be fun if it was. Rules are meant to be broken and she knows how to break them. If Adam gets to the place where he can create whatever he wants and break boundaries of time and genre as Gaga now can, we will all be over the moon. I hope people do not descend to ad hominem attacks on her instead of critiquing her vid...that would be a shame. You may not like her vid but that does not make her an egotistical/bad/self-centered/choose your term here person IMHO. It is a Gaga vid so it stars her....and it is her vision so she is the producer. Trespassing is Adam's vision so he is producing.... I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see him come up with something 'adamish' like this. It is very cool..... It will be really interesting to see the reception this gets. I think it is a hundred times better than the one she did for 'Born this way"....tho I did not mind that....don't judge me....maybe I am just addled in my old age....:-) We can agree to disagree on gaga's video :-/ : Different strokes and all that , although I think my niece will love it as much as you do !
