Today's mantra:
Please grant me the serenity to never angst over unsubstantiated tweets, The continued optimism to squee over those that delight and inspire me, And the wisdom to know the difference.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, FINLAND! *waves to all Finnish Adamtopians* I always say that one of the very best parts of this fandom is how it brings people together from all corners of the world in celebration. Also, Bobo, thank you for posting those YTs of the song Finlandia. I'm in love with the version from Nightwish and now I'm listening to more of their music instead of getting ready for work...

Happy Independence Day to all the Finberts. My grandpa fought in WW1 over there. I have a totally OT question for you guys or any Eastern Europeans. I'm baking Christmas cookies today and am looking for a recipe. My grandma's old one just doesn't come out the way I want them to. In Hungarian they're called kiffles(sp). They're little pastries filled with apricot, prune (lekvar) or poppy seed filling. I'm trying a new recipe today, and I'll see how it turns out. Anyone have a family recipe for these pastries. I'm using this recipe. Here's a link with a picture. www.mygourmetconnection.com/recipes/baking-desserts/cookies/hungarian-kiffles.php

Happy Independence Day, to our Finnish friends! I visited Jean Sibelius' house in the aspens in Finland--tranquil. The melody of Finlandia has been used for several Christian hymns--some of the lyrics as well. Standing in the aspens, I felt as if I finally knew what the word "susurration " meant-- one of those words you read without really having a sense of it--quiet whispering/murmur.
