Hi all - I have to post this here, since I haven't seen it yet, and its tangentially AFL-related. Today a huge court decision was handed down against Prop 8, the anti-same-sex marriage amendment in CA. It is a comprehensive, fact-based decision (making it more defensible legally), which is awesome.
It's particularly important because its from a federal (not CA state) court, meaning that an appeal will likely go all the way to the Supreme Court, and impact the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) that prohibits same-sex marriage from being subject to the same federal tax, immigration, and other benefits as opposite-sex marriage. It is a big deal for many same-sex couples where one person is a foreign citizen, as with Adam and Sauli, because DOMA is a huge obstacle for ensuring that a foreigner can stay in the country to be with a partner, even if they lose their work-related visa.
yay!

CaymanHow can you blame the pretty one? He's crazy busy putting together the new 'Spectacular, Spectacular!' I'm home today slamming out email before leaving early tomorrow a.m. Have you gone back to mopping the floor? Because you may have to explain to me the joys of retirement in Arizona b/c I'm thinking of premature retirement when I get back to U.S. fall/winter next year. . Esp. I don't want to be caught in some sort of Mad Max Climate change thing where's there's no water- just tea partiers w/firearms. Also, even w/out the apocalypse, I need a pool filled w/water daily and I'll prob need to borrow Maui sometimes to help me enjoy it 8-) Hang in there!

I feel a little funny posting this here, in part because it's OT, and in part because it feels a bit like revealing someone's personal stories, although they were of course consciously published by the person in question...so mods, if you deem this inappropriate in some way, please feel free to delete... Like all of you I loved the Sam Lansky piece on Trespassing, and the astute writing and his subsequent lovely interactions with fans via twitter made me curious about him and his other work. His website is rich and interesting; I particularly recommend the section linked to on the top right called "literary nonfiction" and an article he wrote for The Fix about Britney Spears and addiction. He has a lovely, conversationally direct and very candid style. He is indeed as young as he looks, but perhaps only in years... And something about Lansky's history makes me appreciate the frank pleasure he takes in pop music (ebulliently evident in his piece on Adam) even more. He's a wonderful combination of worldly and yet still open to easy enchantment. www.samlansky.com/I am so happy to find him on Team Adam. Hey, midwifespal, here's a message from Sam on his twitter! To the person who posted this unbelievably generous and kind comment about me on a forum: You made my year. Thank you. twitpic.com/7qoja4 He links to your post above. ETA: The Britney piece is extraordinary. It's worth your time. ;D ;D :D Just got on here! well, that's not quite true: I got on like an hour ago, saw this post by Aloha (thank you, babe ) and have been happily splashing around in the pool of good feelings it inspired since then and just now pulled it together enough to actually post something! You're all such sweetie-pies, getting excited with me, and I'm glad you're enjoying Lansky's work as I have been. I meant every word of it. I love it when smart people who actually listen to and enjoy pop music write about pop music. Why should that be as rare as it is? MWP, In a roundabout way, you told a stranger they were beautiful and made their year. How sweet does that feel? Your a writer... he's a writer. Both in NY. You should totally have a coffee date and bond over all things literary and Lambert. And I really liked his piece on Britney too. Thanks for pointing it out. Aww, Jamie, well put, that's exactly how it feels. freelancing can be a pretty damned thankless job sometimes. I'm so glad Mr. Lansky is feeling all the glambert love! (and believe me, kiddo, in my imagination that's totally how it's going down. But in reality I'm way too shy and am blushing at the thought and crawling back into the safe and cozy confines of my internet-hovel!) ETA: And another link for you MWP!! :D twitpic.com/7qol28@samlansky Sam Lansky December 9, 2011 Since I have nothing better to do than troll forums looking for people talking about me, this comment = everything.
Just to be clear, this second post Sam Lansky tweeted about wasn't me--if I'm remembering correctly, it was LindaG23. :D

www.afterelton.com/tv/2011/12/all-on-the-line-with-joe-zeeNobody Lays It "All On The Line" Like The Dapper Joe ZeePosted by Jim Halterman on December 9, 2011 Adam Lambert (l) gives his fashion two cents to Joe Zee (r) on tonight's All On The Line. In tonight’s all-new episode, Zee works with yet another struggling designer, but this time gets a little help from fashion icon, out rocker Adam Lambert. I really hope someone rips it rapidly since I don't get Sundance Channel. A high school friend called me earlier today and started going on and on about Jackie Evancho, her grandfather was a classmate of ours, and kept declaring no one could sing any more and she was amazing, etc, etc. I kept my silence, something at which I do not excel, but finally had to mention Adam, casually, of course, and she said she remembered him from American Idol and had seen him a few times a long time ago on ET but that was it. Because she's more a Jackie Evancho kind of person, I told her I'd email her a few Adam things. She was actually excited. In 10 minute intervals, I sent her: 1. Brigadoon (included picture with the Bushes, though I don't know her politics. 2. The Prayer (she's a regular church goer) 3. Sleepwalker from GNT 4. Music Again from GNT That eased her into the real, up to date Adam. She was duly impressed and asked me to let her know when his new music comes out. Not expecting big things, but it was nice to have the opportunity to spread the word.... and she does have 3 grown children, so who knows. I never realised how musically illiterate my friends are until Adam. The younger ones are better, but those who are my age who were so into music when we were in high school and college have morphed into pop culture novices (that is the nicest word I could come up with.) Anyway, just hanging out waiting for developments. What time is it Pacific time????
