Very interesting comments from Kara!. So much goes on behind the scenes on these shows that we don't realize. I wonder what Adam was doing with his eye that she told him not to do? LOL Kara loved Adam from the start. She saw him as a big star even then. He's so lucky that she pushed for him to get on the show. Idol was never the same after Season 8.

I dunno, that just doesn't sound right. I remember reading an article at the beginning of Season 9 where Patrick Lynne (one of the Idol producers who headed up the auditions) was interviewed at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, where Adam auditioned the year before. He made a point of saying they were looking out for him in the later rounds because he was so good. And since when did Idol have any issues whatsoever with Simon "destroying" any of the contestants? Seems to me the show loved that when it happened. I'm not saying she wasn't supportive, but at least in the televised audition, Randy and Paula were more immediately on board with Adam than Kara was. I haven't listened to the interview, so maybe she said something that clarified it, but it sounds like a bit of revisionist history to me.

I think someone was trying to take credit for Adam after the fact, lol. I can't imagine they would allow a new judge, who had yet to be seen by the public, have a say in who makes the show. Besides Danny Noriego had been on the show the year before with his rolling of the eyes and head snapping and sassing Simon. True Simon did not care for him (but never tried to destroy him) but he did not care for a lot of people on the show. Adam looked and presented himself as any other contestant that year. Just better. I also heard the story that producers were told to look out for Adam because he was so good and they wanted him on the show. Besides joke contestants were a big thing back then and Simon and producers had no problem with the ridicule.

There’s a really wonderful interview with Brian May on Alan Alda’s podcast “Clear and Vivid” where they discuss Brian’s scientific accomplishments in-depth. No mention of Adam, but it was great to hear these two wonderful gentlemen in conversation.
