Here's a link to some sad facts about music that put the lie to the idea that daring, risk taking, innovative, epic creativity is what is needed to become a huge success. Yes we want Adam to change the face of music, but we also want him to be a huge success and this goes to show you that artistic excellence does not always equal huge success. Finally delurking after weeks of reading (and enjoying to no end) ATOP to completely agree with you. IMHO, pop music is called that because it is meant to be popular, which unfortunately means it HAS to be sort of mediocre to be liked by the largest possible masses. I like to think of it as fast-food vs. fine dining. McDonald's is huge in its own business world not because it is extremely good, but exactly because it isn't. It is consistently mediocre. But it is cheap, relatively filling and available everywhere. Same with modern pop music vs. other genres that might be of higher quality, but because of that also less accessible to the uneducated ear. I would include here progressive rock, jazz, classical music, opera and so on. We know Adam can shine when singing rock (see EMA with Queen!), musical/opera/rock-opera (see CTMBTM, Heaven on Their Minds) and so on, but if he would release an album with that kind of music, it wouldn't be played and it wouldn't sell much regardless of his fantastic vocals. So we should remember that he is trying to get recognition and a star status in an industry where mediocre singers like LFMAO or The B.E.P. are celebrated. I see this single release as a political move in an attempt to storm the heights of the radio charts with music people are prepared to listen to. I like the song (although I don't like the direct emulation of the R&B vocal lines CK had in the demo), but I suspect I might like some other songs on Tresspassing better. For the record, when I heard WWFM on FYI, my first reaction was "No wonder Pink did not included it on her record, this is throw-away junk". Imagine my surprises when it became the biggest hit from the album (I LOVE the Acoustic Live version, of course! ). But in light of the above thoughts about fast food and pop music, I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise. Before you ask, my favorites from Era 1 were Voodoo (not even on the album!) and CLYG (ditto). I appreciated SFW, SW, Fever and enjoyed Broken Open on the record, but not live. Anyway, hi everybody! (wave to all ATOPers). I happen to be a hetero male in his 40s married to a "little monster" (the Gaga kind) and have been following GNAFL online since the night he sang "Satisfaction" on Idol 8 EVERY FREAKING DAY, which I suspect makes me some sort of ...Bert. Welcome...Bert. I'm a hetero female in her (cough) 40's and can completely relate to your post. that aside, thanks Mys*&@^#r. Post of the day?! LOL! Surely you jest.

Haha! Thanks guys. Maybe I shouldn't have told you - if I flunk the Civics Test I'll die of embarrassment!! ;D delurked just to give you a simple but very effective tip re: Naturalization interview...Load the electronic questionnaire to your ipod and while waiting for your turn to be interviewed (or even on the way to the office), keep listening to all 100 questions and you will pass your civics test with flying colors. i did the same thing. the immigration officer/interviewer will ask only a few questions (7 for me at the time i had it) if you don't get any mistake. more incorrect answers, more questions to be asked. hope that helps..... don't worry, you'll pass it. Awww, this warms my heart. You delurked just to help a fellow fan. Adam Lambert draws the nicest people.

Didn't that Toby guy say he was going to play it tomorrow on his station? New Zealand or somewhere?? Liam said he would play it, but he is in NZ. For the US, I vote for Z100!!! Since Toby's not the morning DJ on his radio so his station will not be the first to play it IMO. So I'm split between Z100 and Q102 :-/

welcome lumpia and kryptoman!
Kryptoman I feel a kinship because we have the same favorite Adam songs (though I'd add DTRH) I'm a hetero female bert in her thirties married to a fan of industrial and trip hop and since we share one ipod it gets kinda interesting on shuffle.

I've been checking ATOP on and off all day, but had NO time to post and haven't been able to read the whole thread. *whines* SOO frustrating!! I love the excitement of what's happening, but I wish I had more time to play! And I need to sleep! I wasn't able to listen to the song earlier today, but finally had a chance after the song was posted on AO.
Anyway, I have a lot of conflicting feelings about BTIKM (for some reason this particular acronym annoys me!). Overall, I feel really optimistic that this will be a hit -- I'm not a big radio listener, but it just feels like a song that will be played a lot.
My own feelings about the song are pretty consistent with my reactions to the snippet. First, disappointment over the "mainstream" feel of the song, along with the recognition that this "safe" choice may seem necessary to Adam and/or the label. And definitely I have a sense that this song will do well. It stayed in my head all evening after one listen. But I don't think it will convince any of the Adam-resisters in my life to change their minds.
Along with the feelings of disappointment, however, I once again had a huge reaction to Adam's voice. Even though I agree with Midwifespal that the lyrics are 'schmaltzy' and the sound is somewhat generic, and I REALLY did not want a schmaltzy love song (although I kind of expected one but was hoping for something different), the song nevertheless makes me feel very emotional in all kinds of conflicting ways (some of them painful), and I'm pretty sure it's primarily due to Adam's voice. So I kind of love the song, and I kind of hate it at the same time. urrgghh
I know this thread is probably dead now (although it was still alive when I STARTED writing this), but I want to say that even though I haven't been able to read through the entire thread, I really love some of the posts on the last few pages. Agree with a lot of what was said by Midwifespal (I like the drums in the song, too, as well as the piano), Jamie(love the vid you posted), and Mika (I really want to see Adam as an innovator and a game-changer, but I understand the need to be popular in order to gain the power to change the game) , and yet I also like a lot of what Burrito said. Conflicting feelings!! Appreciate everyone's eloquence and educated opinions, I'm feeling word-challenged at the moment...
Welcome to kryptoman and lumpia!

I've been lurking in this place since PF died/closed....been here every single night. just didn't have enough knowledge in music to be able to contribute to the (cerebral) discussion. i love this place. this is the only adam site i go to. never liked mj. just go there once in a while if there's no news here but i can't stay there longer than 5 minutes. this is where i feel at home. love the posters here. very funny and very nice people. by the way, lumpia is adam's favorite Filipino dish (i think) so i decided to use it as my username..
