Catz, There very well may be an anatomical reason that Adam's high register sounds shrill or uncomfortable for you. His voice is full of ringing harmonics all the way thru his range, but on the highest notes, when he powers them, he is probably producing a lot of high frequency harmonics. If your ears/nerve cells are particularly sensitive to those frequencies it would sound different than it sounds to others. There are also conditions where sounds seem to jump in intensity. At one loudness level it is pleasant, but a narrow increase in decibels (loudness) and it is suddenly too loud, even painfully so. (a condition knows recruitment) . W know that different people respond to Adams voice differently, and I suspect it has to do with the harmonics ahow our body resonates to them. Just FYI. Carry on, everyone. Thanks for responding bb  Yes, on certain songs - but not all - when Adam hits his higher notes it kinda ~hurts. Often tho, it is the double whammy of having loud instrumentation in the mix as well. This is particularly so with CLYG. As I said before, I'm fine on the verses - love Adam's voice, but when all the instrumentation kicks in all I hear is crashing and banging and  forgive me overall screeching noise. It's just this muddled up, jumbled up WALL of unconnected clatter that, for me, is really hard to listen to. I really wish I could hear it the way the rest of you do. MA is another one I don't like for similar reasons. And yet ie; TOMT, BO, ROF and the glorious Strut wail is sublime for me 8-) Lol... go figure :  IMO you are indirectly right on. I think it also ties into what Eber tweeted about disliking present day mastering engineers. At least all versions I have heard so far, in a few varying degrees, have seemed excessive hot level wise in the chorus causing a compressed distorted effect. It also varies depending on what I listen to it on. Hopefully limited to, but at the very least I think they are streaming a faulty version of this song. I keep hoping the copy I purchase is clean. This is a technical issue, not a artistic or performance issue. |

This is a technical issue, not a artistic or performance issue. I agree as per my comments last night re the high range being cringe worthy for me. Loved the lyrics, but the sound on some of the sites was NOT the same as on Adam Official. The high parts and loud parts were so loud and high it was even hard to hear the actual words. Yes maybe it is my ears ... Once I listened to the AO version I relaxed a tad! Listening to a different site may help. Did for me. The more I listen the more I am enjoying it...even though I was worried it was like "rock wailing" and I was hoping for middle range sound. Well Adam is Adam and this is his style... his record and so be it. Everyone else says Hit so that is what I really want fo him. Edit: Someone needs to ask the tweeter HOW DID THE BAND SOUND? |
