I am not trying to bring up DOOM AND GLOOM because I fully believe RCA is behind this--they spent a shitload of money on this album--and I do believe they can be competent despite the prevailing fandom meme. And no I don't believe the new meme going around that they released early to appease the fans. LMFAO. They never try and appease us, why start now? HAAAA
So...without resorting to DOOM AND GLOOM does anyone have any thoughts?

I think it's really amazing and fun that Adam's new song is playing in so many places around the world today. It seems like maybe they're continuing to build buzz and excitement so that by the adds date it will already be on its way to hit status.
I'm really excited about whatever is about to happen! Have no need to predict or even KNOW what's ahead, but it just seems like everything is happening as it should. (*anticipates numbers threads at MJs and other idol-related charts; rubs hands and grins devilishly*) And it's really so much more satisfying, imo, that his stardom didn't happen all at once, but hit some bumps and took time to develop in ways that showed more of what he's made of and what he can do.
I'm really excited about the song, too. I think it's got the potential to be huge. I've already said that I thought it sounded generic at first, and I didn't love the lyrics, and I really dislike the title of the song, which makes me want to eyeroll -- #Ihaverelationshipissuesokay?*whattyawantfromme* -- but Adam's voice just, as has been said by others, ELEVATES the song and frankly I can't listen without getting chills. It reminds me of TFM in some ways -- obviously a whole different type of song but maybe it's the layered vocals that make it feel so thrilling to me. AND, it's a total earworm, as well as ear candy. Earwormy ear candy, eww, maybe I need another metaphor. But really, the song has stayed in my head ever since I heard it, and makes me want to keep re-experiencing it.
Love Arjanwrites' review. And I LOVE Ann Powers "post-genre, post-gender" comment. That is something I've been thinking about lately -- that one thing I pretty much EXPECT from Adam (entitled, or not?) is for him to blur genre boundaries much as he has already blurred gender lines. And actually, he may have taken a small step in that direction with this song; I expect (and hope) there will be much more genre-blurring on the album.
So excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ETA: Chunkey, I didn't see your post before I posted this, and I am beyond clueless about the record industry, but I'm thinking it was much as I said above. They want this thing to grow and build up momentum by the adds date (and maybe get some holiday sales). And who knows what else they have planned? But I agree, I really don't think that they did this to appease the fans. Ugh, doesn't sound like a good motivation to me.

2 mid sized suitcases!!! I thought he would pull out some big ones. Not like your going to Hawaii. Guess we may not see the big wintery coats he has nor the Pugh coat...those would have taken up one suitcase case, unless of course he recycles his jeans and jackets while in Finland. I hope Sauli had a few Finnish as a second language classes going on with Adam .....greeting the "parents" and all. May they have a wonderful holiday season!I am sure they can all say a few words in English to Adam !

Chunkey it's got me scratching my head too. The delayed add date makes sense. It the single and album dates are close enough he can double dip on the promo and talk about both.
Honestly the only thing that come to mind is that the early release is to 1) ramp up as much ground swell as possible 2) maybe get some easy $$ from iTunes G.C. 3) give plenty of time for the PDs to get their ducks in a row for the add date 4) a NYE premier (unlikely). None of this really makes sense.

Hrm so anyone have any theories as to why RCA is dropping the song now--with seemingly no promo that we know of (though I would looove to be wrong!! hello x factor or nyre)--and then not having adds till almost feb? I am not trying to bring up DOOM AND GLOOM because I fully believe RCA is behind this--they spent a shitload of money on this album--and I do believe they can be competent despite the prevailing fandom meme. They got Kelly buttloads of great promo and managed to get her meh song pretty high on the charts despite how meh it is. So I think they can and will promote this sucka....really I am just so at a loss at their strategy here. Admittedly I am not a numbers stan and don't know much about radio and behind the scenes dealings beside some pretty basic stuff. IDK wut they r doing here tho. And no I don't believe the new meme going around that they released early to appease the fans. LMFAO. They never try and appease us, why start now? HAAAA So...without resorting to DOOM AND GLOOM does anyone have any thoughts? Chunkey, I got nuttin! And I agree, "released for the fans for the holidays" is a nice thought, but labels don't do business that way. The suddenly changed release date is still a mystery! I do follow numbers and the entire timing doesn't make sense. I dunno! Plus, I am wondering why no spins from Z100 or Q102Philly today?

HAAAA So...without resorting to DOOM AND GLOOM does anyone have any thoughts? This was posted earlier today and I thought it was a good explanation: About RCA strategy, from a fan over at Pulse (and I happen to really agree with this assessment, which is why I'm bringing it over): "He doesn't need to do promo right now. With the holidays coming everything is on hiatus. RCA needs to make sure he gets an iTune banner for the holiday sales so the public knows he has a single out. Any appearance he does now will only result in short term sales without radio sustaining it on iTunes. Let the song build on radio first and than do the big promo push." I would add: The big TV promo push the week of the drop is usually for albums - for albums you really want huge numbers on opening week. For singles it's different: there is of course some promo throughout, but ideally you coordinate the biggest TV promo push with the time when it's highest on radio, so that it gets as high as possible on the Billboard charts (kinda like what they did with his Idol appearance for WWFM). The promo that is happening right now for the single is *radio* promo, behind the scenes, so that radio plays it, and that's been already going on (as we've seen tweets about "King Joe") (I'll go back and find out who posted it and modify) LifeTraveler had posted the quote I referenced earlier today.
