Craazyforadam Thanks for posting the photo of your precious nativity scene. I've been to several woodcarving towns in Switzerland (Brienz) and Germany but not yet in Austria. It's lovely and obviously has much value to you and your family. You are indeed fortunate. I think many of us here have a similar background and perhaps that's why we love Adam. One of the reasons anyway. My greatest wish for 2012 is that the US moves more quickly towards an environment such as you described...where there is a place for everyone.

Happy Holidays to all Atops!!!! I know many of you are parents or grandparents and have spent a good portion of your lives assembling toys, making merry and losing sleep to make sure that Santa and his Elves complete their rounds. My morning started at 5:45 AM when my DGD called to say Merry Christmas Gma - Come on over so that we can open presents. It might have been very early, but I remember many a time when my own children wouldn't let me sleep that late, they were so excited. Of course it is now 2:30 in the afternoon and presents have been opened, played with and we are preparing our Christmas feast. It has been a "special" day and I hope all of you have had wonderful memories as well. Much luv to all of you as we prepare for the ride of 2012 and I hope to meet many of you in the year to come. Babs You just made me cry reminding me to remember all the Christmases I have lived through. My parents are gone, two of my brothers are gone, my grandchildren don't live near us anymore, but my husband and I both have wonderful memories when our house has been crowded with people (most of them drunk because we are irishmen) but the love and laughter abounded. We would laugh for days over some of our parties. We would even laugh at the irish funerals we attended months later. They were the best. We truly know how to send someone to the great beyond. What lovely, dear people I come from. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss them all. Thank heaven they remain alive in my memories.

Nope they have been my outlaws for the last 30 odd years - a fairly common term in my neck of the woods Sorry, I only know one meaning to the word, and I guess it's not it... Would you enlighten me? It is a play on words, katycake. When one has friction with their in-laws, the term "out-laws" might be used when speaking about them. Probably not in their presence though. Although I'm sure some do.
