I hope Adam is still watching because I think the rest of the evening delivered what he asked for. The first four guys were indeed utterly forgettable, for me - gone, gone, gone, and gone, I would guess. But James Durbin - he'll be sticking around a while, which is gonna be interesting for Adam fans. He's much better than I expected. Jacob Lusk is kinda phenomenal - they just called him the next Luther Vandross! Paul McDonald is a cool, hip, good-looking natural (with an awesome jacket tonight), and Scotty does what he does pretty well (although I thought he might fall right off his stool if he leaned any further to one side while making those faces). And then there's Casey who is all kinds of nerdy, jazzy, hip. After that, it's toss-up for me between Robbie the crooner and Brett the oddish one to round out the six boys (if that's how they're doing it this year, I don't know). And I would have posted this on a rather popular AI site, except I can't get through due to traffic, which bodes well for this AI season, so far, I think. The fact that James Durbin referenced Adam (saying he wanted to go for the high notes like Adam Lambert and singing "Change is Gonna Come" in Hollywood) doesn't bother me at all. If anything, I see it as complimentary to Adam. And I think James is himself - he happens to like those classic rock songs (and leather and hang-y tail things), like Adam did. I suspect we won't be seeing much glam from James, though. I've read "poor man's Adam Lambert" - and that makes me think of Dusty Madrid! Did you see the videos of james pre-Idol, he is certainly playing a role, looked quite different...
Thank you Cassie, I have NO plans on watching Idol again, not last year, not this year. I did enjoy your critique though, I can count on you for expertise & honesty. You will give praise where praise is do and no BS. Adam is all I honestly have time for, and honestly I do not think as a layman anyone will ever come close to superseding him. I do, however, really enjoy reading all your expert critiques!
Ditto for me

I think I will watch to see who is in the top 12. If certain people I don't like are in and certain people I do like are not, I'm done. I have no investment nor do I plan to vote, though. I haven't voted since Adam and only did once or twice before. Goodnight all.

maria, Do you mean he was playing a role then? or now? (I saw the clip of him in really bad white jeans outfit with his band on TMZ and I saw a u-tube of him singing a slower song, I forget which now). In those clips, and on Idol so far, I see mainly a young kid with various issues for whom music has been a refuge, a place where he comes closest to feeling he fits, a place where he feels confident - that's what i see in him that i think is genuine or sincere - but i don't think he knows himself musically as well as Adam knows himself, of course. He's still "developing," no doubt. Maybe he looked/looks different because he's still figuring it out, maturing, musically or otherwise?

Q3, thank you so much for sharing your story! As I understand it, it wasn't so much the giving of the speech that was an act of bravery, but the content? Sounds like your "from the heart" words may be a bit of an anomaly in that environment. So awesome that you took that risk! And as so often happens, when people speak from the heart, it is heard and it resonates. As Adam says-- "realness" Sounds like that's what happened. So happy for you! It's amazing what acts of great and small courage Adam has inspired in so many.
