Checking in to report 0lb weight loss this week. I'm not really surprised as I expected this week to be more difficult than the first.
I've done okay with exercise and daytime dog walks this week but need to prioritize at home workouts when I don't go to the gym.
I haven't been as good with food this week.
My stanning time is okay, less than 3 hours per day but this hasn't been a big news week.
Hoping for a better result for next week.
Congrats to those who have continued to lose weight.

Well I checked today's Daily Thread & found the link to this thread for weight loss - you guys are too much! Is it too late to join in??? I want to lose 10-15 pounds. After all the holiday debauchery my jeans are a little snug & I absolutely refuse to go up a size! And I'm not spending my money on new clothes when I need to save for the tour. So it's weight loss time. I must have been predestined to find this place because last week I decided to try cutting back on carbs. I've checked out some low-carb diets like Scarsdale & Atkins, & apparently people lose weight very fast if they stay on a strict low-carb/high protein diet for 2 weeks. I tried cutting back drastically on carbs, and holy crap, it was torture to get through last week with NO BREAD! I don't think I can stick with such a strict regiment, but maybe I can do without carbs Monday-Friday & maybe have just a few on the weekend. It seems like it should work - just maybe not so fast. And that's okay. We have 9 weeks until March 20th. If I can lose a pound & a half a week, I would be such a happy camper! Any thoughts on low-carb diets? Anyone done any research? Pros & cons? I just kinda skimmed over this thread & didn't read each & every post cause I just wanted to jump right in! Ima go back & read what everyone has said because I want to know everyone else's challenges & ideas. Jablea - this is a truly great idea. Thank you so much!

Wow. Good job everyone. Especially Irish and Meanddream!!!! I've got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is: weight loss goal: 25lbs. +.5 this wk; -2.5 to date Exercise goal: 5 x/wk 3x this wk The good news is: I'm not discouraged. I went on a 3 day trip to visit friends and stayed with low carbs the whole time and am not losing my resolve. I've been doing the nautilus equip. when I walk (it's on my walking circuit ). I'm sore....the good kind of sore. The house is full of fresh vegetables. I know I need to eat less of the "legal" food, conquer my eating after dinner and meet my 5x a week excercise goal. So glad for this thread . It's really helping me to have others to chat with and report results to.

Goal = 15 pounds Week 1 = lost 2 pounds Week 2 = lost 2 pounds
Staying on track is very hard but I'm working on it. Was ill all last week and unable to exercise, but I kept on the reduced calories and tons of water. Seems to be helping my skin as well.
YAY! Good luck everyone and stay focused.

Any thoughts on low-carb diets? Anyone done any research? Pros & cons? Just my 2 cents...I think Atkins is a bunch of bull! Yes you will lose weight, but at what cost. The true goal is to get healthier, and Atkins doesn't do that, and it is almost impossible to maintain long term. If you are interested in low carb plan, check out the South beach diet, it is a little better, imo, because it focuses on eating healthier fats, the Eat Clean diet is also a good choice. What works for me is not to worry so much about carbohydrates (fruit and veggies are carbs), but to cut out refined foods...the white stuff...sugar, white flour, white rice, and potatoes. The first two weeks, I don't eat any non fruit or veggie carbs, then after that i add in oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, and even some whole grain bread and or crackers in small quantities. I eat as much fruit and veggies and protein as i want. Try to eat 5 to six small meals a day and include some protein with each meal/snack. Healthy fats like peanut butter, avocado and nuts are great snacks cuz they keep you full longer. Oh yeah...Lots and lots and lots of water!!

I have to agree with Lakato about not liking the Atkins diet. It is just not healthy and long-term, not sustainable. Being in health care, I have also seen pretty impressive gall bladder attacks by people on this diet.
Be sensible. Less processed foods, more vegetables and some fresh fruits are the way to go. Adding protein and some healthy fats will even out the highs and lows with your blood sugar levels and will help to make you feel "full."
Consider the cereal isle at the grocery store off limits!

Been a busy day and I've celebrated just a bit because
Goal 15, this week -3, total -4 Yipppee!
I think I'm crediting my recumbent bike 20-60 minutes a day usually in 5-10 minute increments. And I've been pretty good about snacks.
I read thru some of your successes this morning and sounds good so far, still more for me to catch up on. Good work everybody.

I have to add my support for the South Beach Diet. It is low carb but healthier and more livable than Atkins.
I have to say that Atkins worked well when I was younger and more active. I would lose quickly without suffering at all. Those were the days! ;D

BTW, I think ya'll are selling Atkins short. The extreme low carb part of the diet only lasts for two weeks. After that carbs ramp up in stages, first to whatever level you can eat and still lose weight and, finally to whatever level you can eat and maintain your weight permanently -- often around 100 grams of net carbs per day. I've been eating about 100 grams of net carbs per day for nearly two years now, so that level is certainly sustainable.
My diet varies some from day to day of course, but in general, it's around 2000 calories a day as follows:
25% protein 25% carbs 50% fat
The two biggest diet mistakes, IMO, are not eating enough protein and not eating enough (good) fat.
