So my message to any of you who smoke, please, please, please consider quitting. It was a contributing factor in 3 of the people I mentioned above. Thanks. I'm coming up on my four year anniversary on Feb 11th. Just quit cold turkey, completely out of the blue, one night...after 38 years as a nicotine junkie. I started the diet and fitness kick on the 2 year anniversary of quitting nicotine. Smoking had robbed me of the ability to exercise and be fit. It's been a long slow journey to get some of that back.

Monday - Check In DaySo this is the end of Week 3. At about this time some of has probably fallen off the wagon.....what? Yes, I'm talking about me. I'll have plus numbers this week instead of minus. Dang it. But that's why we are all here, together. And just because one week doesn't meet our expectations it doesn't mean that we are done, thru with it, etc. Nope, we are going to climb back on the horse and ride like the wind -- I can feel it blowing my hair now. I'm hoping for good news from the majority of you. Hello to everyone..... I can report another steady week of loss: WEEK 3 Goal: 6K LOSS TW: .7K ----- TOTAL LOSS: 2.05K (converter says 4.51 lbs) LOL when I read the postings of solar1 and jojo, because in both posts JUICING was brought up - Adam and Sauli and their glowing good health is inspiring.... here is my picture for this week: YUP .. I tried a juice breakfast yesterday ... my "alternative" lifestyle son was over and he dusted off my juicer (I forgot we had one) and made me a great tasting mixture : mango and jabotacaba fruit from our garden .. . and then fresh picked organic carrots..beetroot .. kale .. silverbeet and chives from his garden - I was VERY surprised at how tasty and filling it was ! I have to "STOP" the exercise/diet regime the end of this week as I'm having an operation and according to all reports will need to be careful with most activities until healing is complete (can take 2-4 weeks) .. I will still be following the group but while I don't expect to lose any weight I'm hoping to participate in the forums. My son says he'll be supplying me with fresh juices to accelerate my healing .. and if they taste as good as yesterdays, I think it will help alot. DON'T FORGET: Cheers, LadyOz

hwc - Congrats on quitting smoking. After trying to quit four times, I finally made it 7 years ago and have been smoke free for 7 years. Yay! It was one of the hardest things I have ever done but I feel great. Of course, that may be the reason I am 50 lbs overweight.
Good news: I lost 2.6 lbs. this week for a 3-week total of 10.2. My husband stayed the same, and is upset about not losing. I tried to tell him that he only had 10 lbs to lose and I have 50 lbs. to lose. It is always harder to lose that last 10 lbs. than to lose 50.
My 2 lb. loss psyched me up to continue on this boring, boring diet. All I dream about is a piece of pizza, but I am going to wait and award myself on March 20. So on March 20, in addition to Adam's album, we are ordering a pizza with everything.

Okay, checking in. I've lost 3" to date from around my waist. My goal is to lose 10". The If I Had You Remix downloads are getting me around the fence-line. Not daily as the weather is not cooperating but as often as the mud allows. My daily food intake is becoming more and more healthy. You guys are keeping me honest! Good luck everyone!

Week 3 check in: Goal 10 lbs., this week -1.5 lb., total -3 lb.
Yay, it's only 3 lbs but it makes a difference, my clothes already feel a little looser. Makes it all worth it.
Good luck everyone!

Hi! Down 3 for the week!
This week I really focused on the basics...no diet coke, lots of fruit, veggies and lean protein and daily workouts.
I also signed up for my next race...I found that for me, having something to train for helps me stay motivated. The last race I did was june of 2011, so its time I get going for something else. The race i signed up for is a 5K (3.1 miles) adventure type race...up and down hill and over obstacles...sounds challenging and fun.
One thing that I do that has worked very well for me in the past is to eat very often, usually 6 or more meals a day. A typical day will be : 7:00 AM Breakfast #1: Yogurt, a banana and green tea 10:00 Am Breakfast #2: 3 Hard boiled eggs (I only eat one of the yolks), raspberries or strawberries and water 12:00 noon Lunch: Huge Salad with a chicken breast, cheese, lots of veggies, nuts and dressing. I have the dressing on the side and dip my fork in it to still get the flavor without all the calories. Either iced tea or water 3:00 Snack: Apple with peanut butter (my all time favorite snack!) Green Tea 6:00 Dinner: Chicken, or Salmon or Steak, salad, some sort of green vegetable...beans or broccoli, and some berries, and Water 8:00 ish: Snack: i found these frozen dark chocolate covered bananas at the grocery store...they are awesome and relatively healthy. Dr Oz says you should eat dark chocolate every day...so I do!! If i feel hungry, I eat something...a cheese stick makes a quick snack, a small handful of nuts, baby carrots, celery...i freeze grapes and blueberries and raspberries for a sweet cold treat.
For exercise i do at least 30 mins of cardio. I do intervals on the treadmill. When i first started working out, i would do 4 minutes walking, and one minute of jogging, then every day i would either increase my amount of time jogging or increase the speed of my jogging. Now I just incorporate a minute or two of high speed running into my normal run every few minutes. I also do at least 30 minutes of strength and flexibility training.
When I'm training hard, i will do much more exercise, but this is a good place for me to start.

Goal 20 lbs / one size. Lost 2 lbs. total: 4 Drinking lots of healthy juices, eating salads, trying to avoid red meat, and more eat more fish. Trying to stay positive, because our family is going thru some tough times. I am happy with my progress, and feeling better. I am going to schedule Dr check-ups that I have been putting off. Didn't do so good with the exercising last week, so it's a goal for this week. I have a four day weekend coming up. Hope to get more exercise, and de-stress with some meditation and a pedi (treat) Cheering everyone on, stay positive, don't let the setbacks get you down, just move ahead. Thanks to everyone posting tips and diets, and encouragement !

I've been MIA this week on this forum, but I'm glad to say I am still motivated and stuck to my low carb lifestyle. I really cut down on the cheese (which I allowed myself plenty of the first week) and really added a lot more veggies. My whole family is enjoying the extra veggies. Unfortunately, I still have not hit my exercise goal of 5+ times a week, but I think if I start doing more now, it will help sustain a steady weight loss. I've decided to bring the old treadmill back in from the garage. Believe it or not, the last significant weight loss success I had was walking on the treadmill about 4 times a week while doing Killer Sudoku and Kakuro puzzles. I could walk for 1 1/2 hrs at a time with challenging enough puzzles. (My walking form wasn't always the best, but I was burning calories! ) Weight loss: TW 2.5 lbs. TD 5 lbs YAY Exercise: 3 x this week Enjoying everyone's input and especially yours, HWC. You're an inspiration and a wealth of knowledge. I am definitely a person that doesn't tolerate carbs well. I am feeling so much better with this eating style.
