syca and lurleen, I think you have good points. syca, I have thought myself about Adam possibly think about his days of edgy small clubs and bar yenues, Upright Cabaret and others where he was used to performing. He says he got caught up in the moment on the AMAs but misjudged the scope of the AMA audience. Like you , lurleene, I loved the FYE performance for its riskiness and was sad that is all went awry for various reasons. Changed Adam's course in an instant. I am enjoying Clash, too. And I am also glad he is the only male judge. He a born leader and always gives constructive advice along with positive praise. I am pretty sure that "club kid" Adam underestimated the consequences of a live performance such as the one at the AMAs, and while I get it that he got caught up in the moment, which resulted in the performance being more raunchy than originally intended, I had the impression that he was ready to push buttons. Adam had mentioned that a few times in earlier Idol tour interviews. Additionally, criticism about the Details shoot from Out Magazine may have been a trigger, besides the pressure that night to "compete" with Gaga's and Rihanna's performances. It turned out that it was too much too early for Adam, especially when it comes to American audiences, though we can argue that he opened doors for others. I will never forget how people in the audience stood up from their seats applauding Adam the new star in anticipation of the performance, only to be left in complete shock once it was over. It was palpable through the tv screen and I can only imagine what Adam must have gone through in the aftermath. It really speaks for him and his talent that he still has a career going. I should probably mention that contrary to the live performance, the FYE video still tops my list of all time favorite Adam music videos.

Can someone be so kind to post the help email address for looped? I bought a ticket for the show but have not received an email to access the link. My purchase doesn't show up yet on their site either...under My Experiences it says I haven't purchased anything. I emailed Support@loopedlive.com on the 16th and was told that it'll show closer to the show date. I hope so...makes me nervous. Thank you! I'm coming back from Vegas on the 29th and hope the link will be in my inbox.

Unlike the tv performance, the FYE video is my favorite. Sexy, cool and it had a dark but rock edge. You can have a great performance that is exciting, sexy and edgy without jumping off the ledge. Adam does it all the time and no one would say his performances are too sweet and unforgettable to have an impact, lol.

Anyone else think that the network's promotion of Adam's performance contributed to Adam going "over the top"? In their ads and lead up, they talked about him being provocative and edgy. They heard the song, they were involved in the staging at rehearsals, and no one said "whoa!" They wanted and expected his performance to be a show stopper. not just for the vocals, but for the image.
Lots of things influenced Adam to do what he did. But, what he did was just an extension of what had already been planned, approved and promoted by the network.

The network played it up because they knew most of what he was going to do. And then he tried to up his game even more because of Gaga and maybe others. But that whole production was playing on someone else's turf and not his own. It was too busy and running up and down the steps with this elaborate dance routine was not what most were expecting or wanting from him. And the Out article coming out right before his performance was in no way supportive of him and so negative. He was hurt and furious. Now I know some think he opened doors for others (I think he did too) but some doors also closed for him. While others went on the perform on one big award show after another and SNL with great exposure and not a care about their sexuality, Adam never got another solo award show performance in the US. Unless you want to count CMT. He was wonderful on there but not one of the big award shows nor even a large country show. And of course QAL at the Oscars.
