Somebody please translate the Rolling Stone review of BTIKM in plain English please. Didn't understand it. It's typical "reviewer-ese," who often tries to wow with clever assessments instead of actually saying something: My interpretation: "Romantic angst, Glambert style – that is a wind-whipped, mid-tempo ballad ..." To me, this is comparing BTIKM to a "Wuthering Heights"-type angst-filled, romantic drama (the wind-whipped, elicited imagery of the Scottish (English?) Moors, etc.). And this theme usually means a brooding, intense (or Byronesque, as MWP said the other day) hero. Then she goes onto say it's typical pop, but it does build to a "money-shot falsetto," (which is totally inaccurate and a mixed metaphor and proof that the reviewer is kind of speaking out of her ass in an attempt to be clever). I think she was trying to say: Wait for the big finish! I probably confused you more ... ETA: In all, I didn't think it bad either. A long way around what she seemed to be trying to say, but not bad.

Loved the comment by Maureen underneath the review, giving the reviewer a D and the song an A... Maureen Holley: The reviewer kind of phoned this review in. Missed the great syncopation on the beat. Missed the lovely piano coming in counter to the melody line. Missed the sensitive interpretation of the lyrical content. Right about the falsetto, but forgot to mention the rich vocal tones in the lower notes. Oh, and not auto-tuned. This song is sung by a really good singer. I'd give the song an A and the reviewer a D. I think the points the Maureen Holley brought up above that made Billboard gives this song an "83" it just the description of the review is s*** ITA. Can't get worked up that all the reviews don't all scream "OMG!". How many pop songs are chart toppers, but get lousy reviews? Here is one from LMFAO album - not one of their singles, but I think it makes the point. The album got a 64 on the review. "As they say in the shuffling single "Party Rock Anthem": "Everybody just have a good time." That's certainly an attainable goal on the dancefloor, and those with an appreciation for big, dumb fun may even enjoy listening to tracks like "Sexy and I Know It," "Put That A$$ to Work," "Hot Dog" and the title track."

For Tatum:
Romantic anguish mixed with hope, "Glambert style, a dramatic mid tempo ballad, produced by Claude Kelly and the expected Dr. Luke and designed to showcase Lambert's superhuman vocal range. It's oversimplified formula, but just wait for the winning victory shot of the falsetto in the chorus.
ETA: I think this is a good review from RS. The song has a money shot, and that is because of Adam's superhuman vocals. As my husband, who has read RS for years says, you can't expect RS to go crazy over a pop song unless the singer has already exploded onto the scene. Until then, they are too cool for formulaic pap, lol.
