Feel free to scroll past my late night ramblings.
Okay that ASL translation of BTIKM made me fall down the rabbit hole. I decided to do a back translation from the ASL in this translation into grammatically correct English. Here is how someone unfamiliar with the original song would translate that translation. (the gibberish words represent concepts he didn't know an ASL sign for, like Google doesn't know some words in a translation.)
The phrases in quotations represent words not native to American Sign Language, but invented to represent English words, so they have no meaning unless the viewer also is familiar with these invented signs and the English meaning.
Ice is cold
More aldkjtieor than “some funky word not in the language” nightly cold
That is how I wxcotkenwe you
I know that I sometimes tend to lose a temper tantrum
I go across a straight line
That is really honest
I know it’s hard sometimes
But I can never, ever depart from your “something that looks like the right side of your chest”
It doesn’t matter what I say
If I wanted to go someplace I would disappear now
But I really need you close to me
To retain my mind “some invented word not in the language” bvuikuyftr
If I wanted to depart I would depart s;ei now
You are the only one knowing me
Better than I know myself
All together proceeding on I try to pretend it doesn’t it doesn’t matter
That I “some made up word” alone
But deeply that I know
If you disappeared each day
I wouldn’t know which road to turn right on in my car
I am lost without you
REPEAT CHORUS
I am a kind of darkness
Permit me? You? (no pronoun used) to go to a far place
I can be ridiculous “invented word” the time but try to see my heart
Because I need you now,
Don’t permit yourself to oppress me
You are the only thing this world would die without
REPEAT CHORUS
