Yesterday I posted something about my discomfort with the degree of Adam stalking done by some fans. (no, not directed at anyone in particular on this forum or off). Serendipitously, Xena just wrote something about the topic also. I agree with much of what she wrote. If you are interested, it is called "An Age of Entitlement". You can read it here: onthemeaningofadamlambert.wordpress.com/2011/03/02/an-age-of-entitlement/JMO --- interesting article but somewhat wrong headed: 1. I disagree with equating following a celebrity -- even closely -- to bullying. Ever cyber stalking is a very different thing. There is even a lot of difference between being an avid fan and an obsessed cyber stalker -- and a lot of the difference is in attitude and the sense of entitlement. 2. Fans have been following celebrities like this since at least the silent film era. What is different is the speed at which information can be shared and the number of people who can be informed about something quickly. 3. My rule is to take a clue from Adam. When he went to Bora Bora, he clearly wanted to keep it quiet. Not only was that information not posted here -- but it was not posted on most Adam fansites and forums -- until after he left Bora Bora. On the other hand, this past Sunday Adam tweeted a photo from the airport. He posed for pictures with fans at the airport. He told at least 2 separate people that he was in Denver to work on his album. He went to Whole Food in his "rock look". Last night he tweeted about what he was doing and about Idol. It looked to me like he was working from the moment he got to LAX. I post all of these adventures here because Adam was an active participant in it. To me, this illustrates that even the most ardent Adam fans have boundaries. 4. I have been in public places 3 times when Adam was there. (I was there first all 3 times and had no idea he would show up.) I observed fans being extremely respectful of him, his friends and his privacy. And outside of one famous incident to a fan deciding she was his friend and the cray-cray fan stalker during Idol, I think Adam fans have been very respectful of him. My conclusion is ....there need to be boundaries but they are hard to define. Fans are very passionate about Adam, and they are interested in everything he does, says, wears, and what he thinks. As long as they remain respectful, are "not hiding behind the drapes" hoping to get a photo of him, and are careful to play by Adam's rules, I do not think it is over the line. When Adam does appear in public ,Denver Whole Foods, a great deal of the comments leave me shaking my head ,i.e. on Adam Lambert 24/7. Most of the discussion is about the GB,or about his weight, too thin, too chunky, etc.I kinda think that is intrusive.. but that's just me.

And I feel that if Adam is not hiding or trying to evade the cameras and he freely - and gorgeously - poses smiling with fans, then I enjoy the responses and comments. He expects these encounters to be talked about. Great PR and interest-promoting for his fans. I love that he cares enough to do that. The airport/food pic was a hoot. He clearly expected speculation and probably got a laugh from the resulting sleuthing. IMO, it was Adam teasing at his finest. I do think telephoto lenses and chasing him down ARE intrusive and I feel uncomfortable about that.

What makes me the most uncomfortable is fans asking him for a hug And no, I'm not telling anybody not to do it, but just reading somebody asking him makes me uncomfortable. I consider some "cyber stalking" (where in the world is Adam Lambert?) harmless fun compared to that. On to a different matter.... Brooke tweeted about Idol: brookesauce75tried to watch ido last night and I am sure there is some great things happening but since A's not on it I just don't care. Sorry bout it Hee, she and I share a brain. Only...I'm not sorry about it

Most of the time Adams fans are respectful when they meet him in RL IMO. I had some fears at the Grammy Panel but people behaved and did not embarrass themselves. The woman who took the picture at Denver airport only posted her encounter when the other picture with the Whole Foods staff person emerged. I also stand by my opinion that the BoraBora pictures were taken with Adams permission.
I have no problems discussing his GB or other “important observations” as long as it stays in the forum and is not posted/tweeted directly to Adam.
Brooke speaks my mind - I am not interested in Idol - but since Adam is so enthusiastic about the guy Jacob I think I will check him out.

Fame, obsession, addiction...these are subjects that fascinate and confuse me. I don't know how many times I have asked myself why I am such an invested fan. It has been impossible for me to wrap my head around...the voice, the kindness, the fierceness, the message, the exposure to new things, camaraderie...or maybe just BSC. I don't know if I will ever figure it out, but trying to understand the "phenomenon" has been the catalyst for a lot of self searching and growth on my part. I never thought much about these issues until I became immersed in them. I have been meaning to read the book by Tom Payne, "Fame: From the Bronze Age to Britney." I always enjoyed Skylar's existential musings and references to Mythology and how they relate to Adam and fandom (I really am a nerd : . Here is a review of the book. Since this is a quiet time I think I'll check it out. www.curtisbrown.co.uk/tom-payne/fame/reviews/Excerpt -- "Throughout history we have defined ourselves with reference to famous people and allowed them to exercise a strange power over us. But we have power over them too. Whether they are renowned for their intelligence, beauty, valor, athletic prowess or artistic genius, or even nothing in particular, they have always been at our mercy: We can give them glory and take it away. Has fame changed? And is our fascination with it really such a bad thing? Tom Payne expertly surveys deities and divas through the ages to answer these puzzling questions and many more."

And so it shall be! adamlambert Ok caught up on idol: Jacob Lusk-- Werk it the fuck out sister! I'm so excited to hear u sing every week!! adamlambert Durbin sounded badass tonight! Lot more control! And while we both have a rock scream I think we're pretty different stylistically. Todrick Hall who was Adam's favorite last year didnt make it through. I havent watched the last episodes yet, i hope his favorite this year will make it.
