Fame, obsession, addiction...these are subjects that fascinate and confuse me. I don't know how many times I have asked myself why I am such an invested fan. It has been impossible for me to wrap my head around...the voice, the kindness, the fierceness, the message, the exposure to new things, camaraderie...or maybe just BSC. I don't know if I will ever figure it out, but trying to understand the "phenomenon" has been the catalyst for a lot of self searching and growth on my part. I never thought much about these issues until I became immersed in them. I have been meaning to read the book by Thomas Payne, "Fame: From the Bronze Age to Britney." I always enjoyed Skylar's existential musings and references to Mythology and how they relate to Adam and fandom (I really am a nerd : . Here is a review of the book. Since this is a quiet time I think I'll check it out. www.curtisbrown.co.uk/tom-payne/fame/reviews/THIS IS MY TAKE ON IT: It's because, when it all boils down, LIFE REALLY SUCKS and if you can find something to occupy your time or makes you lol or smile or bob your head then it sorts takes the edge off the fact that life for the most part SUCKS and usually is alot of the same old same old drudgery and suckery. Frankly I am just a fan for the music #1, and just because of all the opportunites for lolz and silliness---something that, as an adult with an adult job--you don't get to do very often. *shrug*

Chunkeymonkey, I hear ya. I fluctuate between "it's not that deep" and there has to be some meaning in this. I love the shallow end too. But sometimes it's fun to evaluate things in a deeper context. Life does suck sometimes, sometimes it's all about enjoying the distraction of the moment, and sometimes we find something "deep" in something simple.

3. My rule is to take a clue from Adam. When he went to Bora Bora, he clearly wanted to keep it quiet. Not only was that information not posted here -- but it was not posted on most Adam fansites and forums -- until after he left Bora Bora. As long as they remain respectful, are "not hiding behind the drapes" hoping to get a photo of him, and are careful to play by Adam's rules, I do not think it is over the line.
******************* I love this analysis because it says what I feel about most of the people on ATOP. If we had to choose between speaking to Adam in some random location and protecting him from being discovered by the paps, I really have little doubt most of us would forgo our heart's desire to keep him anonymous - I really do. Of course, I can't help but fantasize about the conspiratorial wink he might give when he realizes we are being so selfless.
Also, because I am so old, I remember sitting on the steps of the local drugstore on Tuesday mornings to see if PHOTOPLAY magazine had my favorite movie star in it. I will not tell you who that was because then you will know how really, really old I am. I even begged my mother to let me take a version of his name as my confirmation name. Didn't work, she chose Louise and I've never forgiven her. Between that star and Adam there have only been 2 or 3 mini-fascinations, Steven Tyler being one, but it amazing how I got right back in the swing of things, the difference being I don't have to sit on the steps at the drugstore, I just pop on here every morning (and afternoon and night.)
