The fact that Nessun Dorma was spontaneous makes it even cooler, IMO. Gives it that risky feel, a throw-caution-to-the wind sort of thing. Nobody will EVER EVER forget that performance. And if it's the one and only time he does, that makes it even more special. I would take the "spontaneous" claim with a grain of salt. 1. They removed two songs from the opening medley and did not print them on the setlist. 2. The video screen was frozen on the background used for The Lap Of The Gods... Revisited, so the stage effects/lighting team had to be in on the surprise 3. The performance was just PERFECT, SUBLIME, <INSERT YOUR OWN QUALIFIER HERE>, which usually requires some practice. So my guess is they planned and rehearsed it, but wanted to keep it a complete surprise by not including it on the printed setlist so nobody from the audience could catch a glimpse and tweet about it before it was actually performed.  In the last 10 years, we have had a few extra performances where the surprise was leaked hours in advance by someone who heard the sound check. Maybe they rehearsed it in private without sound checking it? That would be still quite impressive... 4. Plus Brian played 2 pitch notes before Adam started singing.
My guess is that they decided to do this during the sound check or during the band warmup back stage.

I haven't seen how much the streaming tickets cost...does anybody know? I'm still trying to decide if I want to buy one...all that technical talk earlier kind of scared me lol. |
