I would not hold my breath waiting for UK or Japan radio to be all over BTIKM. It is a fine single for the markets where HAC songs do really well -- Northeast and Southern US, Canada, Australia, NZ, and even Germany-Austria-Switzerland but the UK and Japan lean toward more rhythmic US Pop music.
Even in the US, it is rare that a song is popular across the whole country and across a few radio formats. These are the Top 5 or Top 10 songs.
We have no idea what this song can do. It is a bit of a quirky pick for a lead single and not a typical pop song. It really does not grab you by the throat the first time you hear it but then you walk away singing it. Also, it must be very different for people who have heard the whole album or 3 possible singles vs. us -- because we have only heard BTIKM.
>> The strategy appears to be to focus on album sales -- go after HAC first -- and this song really fits HAC -- with CHR potential. This is a strategy designed to maximize sales in North America -- target women aged 25+. These are album buyers.
It is so early in this song's life and initial signs are good, Of course, I am still waiting to hear BTIKM on the radio in Cleveland-Akron area -- and we have 7 CHR stations here. I would have thought Youngstown would have played it -- they target women 18-49 -- and are almost an HAC station -- but they are part of Cumulus Broadcasting and move slowly.
Note: I could have missed a spin in this area but I do not think so.

I hope more folks end up liking BTIKM and eventually the Album, than those who will not connect with it... Looks like Adam's camp is working on getting the music out there... so it will be heard... the results will now come down to mass commercial appeal... music like any other means of communication is the act of the recipient... And.... since I am enjoying this music ... I will continue to listen and let the radio stations know I enjoy listening to BTIKM.... hopefully... this will help create mass stimuli with sufficient intensity that will prod many others to start believing in this music... Sorry, aiming an eye-roll in Brooksy's general direction in the "not hooky," comment. Riight. That's such a catch phrase and obviously anyone who has had BTIKM stuck in their heads for days on end can attest to the fact it most certainly is hooky.
IMO, he kind of sounds like someone who had an idea about how HE thought they (RCA) should proceed and their decision differed with his opinion. That happens, certainly. And now he's kind of taking a tone like, "Well, I hope they know what they're doing ..." He didn't trash Adam and does obviously think he's "stupidly talented" (LOL!), so at this point his opinion about the roll out strategy is differing with RCA's plan.
It doesn't release until March and there is a lot of promo to be done in the UK in February, so I see it's way too early to worry about this one opinion, that could easily be completely off the mark.

Also, remember that this guy has heard at least three songs, and had a definite opinion about which song he liked the best, and which he felt was the hookier song, so any other song would seem less "hooky" to him by comparison, but listeners haven't heard any of these songs. They will just be judging BTIKM on its own merit.
Anyway, not going to angst here. Everything is good! This is the fun time. We finally get to hear new music, see Adam on TV, and hear new interviews. I want to fully enjoy this time because this cycle is a long one, and there will be other times like the previous year again without new music or new appearances.
I love the song; I know I will love the album, and I will love getting to hear Adam sing again and do the out in public part of his job, and that is all good for me!! Yay!

I think the "not hooky" description comes after one listen by these guys. Then all of a sudden one finds oneself humming something and thinks, "Hmm what is that?" Then the realization kicks in that it is the BTIKM chorus. "Hmmm, maybe this song does have a hook after all!" Second listen and it is now an earworm! That's exactly what happened to me this morning! I woke up with a song repeating itself in my head. It took me a few seconds to realize that it was BTIKM. I left my radio on last night hoping to hear it, because a couple of days ago rabbitrabbit said that Mix 107.9 in Salt Lake City has played it, but I still haven't heard it on the radio. (I have heard "Mr. Know It All" about 3 billion times, so I know they'll play Idol alum.) Maybe they played BTIKM when I dozed off and it implanted itself in my subconscious. I definitely consider the song hooky. It might take more than one listen, because it's not one of those songs that just repeats the same six words over and over until you want to rip off your ears and throw them at the radio (I heard more than one of those last night), but I find myself belting, "If I wanted to go I would have gone by now..." several times throughout any given day.

Note: I could have missed a spin in this area but I do not think so. I was scanning my phone at the market, but was waiting to get home to respond on my computer... but Q3 beat me to it. ITA with everything. In my mind the delayed schedule in the UK is a good thing. When a song hits the radio it needs a whole package of promo, which includes appearances & music video. While something upbeat for UK is a better strategy, a mid tempo is is the right avenue in the US, especially if they want to album buyers. high #albums sold = solo tour. So this still makes complete sense. A little delay in the UK and perhaps that time between mid-tempo single one and upbeat single two is smaller. Plus *fingers crossed* there is a Queen performance in the next 6 months to create some media interest. *cougholympicscough* fingers crossed.

@brooksyonair Brooksy @flyteness1 @lambretty @jok1213 Taste makers etc rather than major. Not sure many will go with it as it's not "hooky". Cross fingers ;pI'm glad this guy is being candid but I totally disagree about the "not hooky" part. For me it's VERY hooky. Imma worry about the US before I start worrying about the UK. And I'm not worried yet. Discussion on twitter comparing Kelly's "great" promotion by RCA compared to Adam's "almost non-existent" promo, so some peeps are angsting already. Early days. I love the no-makeup pictures. He always looks even more handsome to me au naturel. It’s certainly not MISTLETOE or SEXY AND I KNOW IT.... guffaw, but if he had put a hookier song out, dj’s could be saying, “Just like everythng else on radio, doesn’t showcase his voice, etc, etc.” There are no guarantees so RCA and Adam had to look at what worked before (WWFM and IIHY 2 totally different songs) and take a shot. I’m glad Adam is in the Adele and Bruno camp rather than in the LMAO camp with the first release.
