Oh my gosh! I don't think I realized that when Adam tripped/fell during the AMAs, that was Brooke right there with him. She must have been dying!

I'd say Sauli's comments are many times sarcastic, he exaggerates sometimes a bit and they are said tongue-in-cheek. You get it better when you hear him speaking and see his facial expressions. It's been his style always. It's helpful to know that these statements are not necessarily meant to be taken seriously. Translations are hard. I pick up on the exaggerations sometimes but not others. I find myself doing this ??? to some of the stuff he says and often wonder if it is all being taken literally by Finns. I guess maybe it's more the other way around. Certainly some of the things Sauli says are a little tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic and exaggerating. But the general themes ring true to me based on my experiences as a Finn who moved to the US. That hair appointment was a special case though, I can't imagine having been an hour late from a salon! I do suspect that his experiences regarding time are not necessarily representative. And in any case individual experiences are just that - individual. If it's any consolation, I'm sure that those Finns who know that his blogs are being translated are worried that Americans take literally what he says about Finland

Adam will still perform songs from his first album. I hope so anyway, because he needs to make his show a bit longer this time around. Hoping for no less than 90 minutes + encore. #entitled AMEN SISTAH! Double Amen! If there is such a thing. pjd, wonderful lights, i love them!!! Your husband did good, bb.

But isn't that the whole beauty and charm of the Sauli blog(s) and reports that we get this curious mix of observations any European will make who moves to America and then interspersed with that we get insights into the life of Adam and the world that surrounds him presented through Sauli's eyes.
Yes, I am aware that normal people with regular day jobs don't get to go to award shows, don't think that Halloween is the most important holiday of Americans or have cameras following them around.
Sure, the whole question of timeliness is one where it is a tad harder to determine, what is Adam (agree with posters above that this is the biggest part of the equation), what is LA and what is a US wide observation.
But that makes these reports so unique and special and charming. Most Europeans travel sufficiently that they are not that easily confused about such reports and for the rest we get to chat and sort things out here at Atop.
I was never looking at Sauli's blogs as a objective travel advisory or reference for cultural observations. But of course, if Americans see themselves as mis-represented I would hope they speak up. Americans are normally quite timely from what I have observed, in many cases more so than Europeans. The reason weddings may be a bit different, is because many are more free-style or destination oriented parties in US and not organized around a scheduled church service and then people show up and socialize prior to the actual ceremony taking place and therefore times are not as stringent. But whatever the situation may be, there are still certain core expectations including some regarding the time and place of the actual exchange of vows ceremony. People need to plan stuff, including space, food service, music and other things that typically are arranged.
I hope Sauli just keeps writing it as he sees it. And I totally think that his humor comes through in the translations too, even more so, if you after reading the translation go back to listening to how he says things (Tutka). Admittedly, I don't normally get around to doing that, but the few times that I did, I enjoyed seeing that - it was almost like seeing a film with sub-titles. Thanks Zinnia and Mia for all that you do for us!
