popcrush PopCrush One more win + @adamlambert is in the Sound Off Hall of Fame. The only person who stands in his way is @taylorswift13! bit.ly/wxtsq629 minutes ago ADAM LAMBERT VS. TAYLOR SWIFT – SOUND OFFby: Cristin Maher 10 minutes ago Congrats again to Adam Lambert and his loyal Glamberts! The ‘American Idol‘ alum has won our Sound Off yet again with his song ‘Better Than I Know Myself,’ with his most recent victory over newcomer Lana Del Rey giving him four consecutive wins. If Lambert wins again this weekend, he will be inducted into the Sound Off Hall of Fame! However, he will have to beat Taylor Swift and her new single ‘Safe & Sound,’ which she recorded with folk duo the Civil Wars for ‘The Hunger Games’ soundtrack. Lambert’s ‘Better Than I Know Myself’ is a midtempo love ballad that boasts romantic reflective lyrics, dreamy keys, sharp and heavy drums, and whirring synth that pulls the entire tune together. Lambert’s high-pitched voice is full of emotion on the track, as well. more....

Also, can someone explain MIDI to me? I grew up with piano, not keyboards and I'm unfamiliar with the terminology (and this acronymn is everywhere. ) While the best technical description can be found somewhere else (like Wikipedia), I will do my best to be as non-technical as possible. In our daily lifes, we are used to digital music stored on CDs or files (WAV, MP3 etc) as a numerical description of the frequencies that have to be reproduced by the output device (headphones, boxes etc.) so we can hear the approximate representation of what the microphone recorded. MIDI on the other hand is a specification that allows musical instruments (typically electronic keyboards, but there are various forms of MIDI controllers) to communicate information about the actual performance. In a way, you can think of the MIDI information as of the notes written on paper to communicate the composition from one musician to another. But the MIDI specification sends messages over multiple channels about when and how the artist pressed a key on the keyboard (including the corresponding note, the velocity of the keypress, any additional variation in pressure after the initial activation), and when the key was released. Additional messages can be send about various pedals and pitch bend wheels included in the keyboard. Another way to think of this is a digital-age version of the Player Piano The MIDI information can be transferred to a digital instrument (or even the sound card of a PC which nowadays includes an emulation of the legendary Roland GS MIDI - in the early 90s, I had to spend a lot of money to buy the real one), or can be saved to a file for later play back. If you send a MIDI file to a MIDI device, it will reproduce the exact performance recorded on the keyboard. So instead of recording the sounds like the MP3 does, it is recording the artist's input. Thanks bb!!! Also thanks for the additional info. I had never heard of Roland GS before, but that explanation was cool. (Hmm.....Sound Canvas....) Also thought it was cool that MIDI can now drive the solenoids on modern electronic pianos. Learned new stuff today!

All one has to do to realize that Adam can "dummy down" his voice is to listen to Take One. >:(
Interesting convo about Sauli and Adam and I realize it is just speculation. We are just "projecting" our experiences and what we think onto them. However, the one presumption that kind of hits me the wrong way is to assume that the Helsinki fight was Adam's fault and that Sauli had to do damage control with his family!

ETA: [grins] BTW - do you also have any advice on potential cheap software that can be used to manipulate recordings? Nothing fancy wanted. Just a tempo change. [grins wider] Ideally without changing pitch, although with most digital manipulation, I think pitch doesn't change with tempo the way it did with analog signals.
