I finally got through yesterday's thread and found 15 pages on the 18th already filled up. Of course I need to pause to stare the gorgeous pictures you so generously post. So, just going to post this rant before it's going to be last week's news (or twice as long)...
I have a few things that I just have to get off my chest. No intention to offend anyone but my frustration levels are up. I have been working extremely long hours for the past week with a flu and very little sleep. I hope that in the next few days I will be able to join the cheering, too, because of these wonderful things that are happening, promo starting, video coming out, absolutely amazing performances, and of course, new pieces to the puzzle of the new album.
First some minor irritations (which I probably should just take in and forget about them but quite easy to "betterer" if wanted). Here on this site, it has been references to a "Daily Times" that allegedly is published in Finland. There is no such thing. Certainly the names of similar publications in USA or UK may be used to describe what kind of a publication it is but I think that the source info should be credited to the original name. Then there are posts apparently written in excitement that don't make sense. I admit it is mostly due to the lack of specific cultural knowledge and/or poor understanding of the foreign language. One example of this was a post of Adam's rings yesterday. The picture shows three rings, and we are supposed to be mind readers as to which of them is the "favourite" ring? Another example is the tweets brought here. Some info as to who the persons are or where does their tweet refer to would make a big difference (talking about persons in the media, dj's, show hosts, pr people, fashion people, the friends of a friend of a friend like people). Third thing I found difficult while trying to quickly browse through the threads is the abundance of abbreviations. Those are very useful and I have been able to decipher most of them but still it would be very helpful if one of the participants on the discussion could disclose the words behind the letters, at least sometimes. Being totally sucked into this rabbit hole I will learn more every day but I am sure there will be other newcomers in the near future. For us some of the very interesting and helpful information here is unfortunately lost and it requires a lot of stamina to stick on.
My main issue is computers and Leno. I woke up at 6.30 am (without an alarm, mind you!) in the hope that maybe I could be able to see the show stream knowing well that it might not be the case. In my frantic search through the abundance of pages of the daily thread I found only one link - and it didn't work. It said the channel was offline, well, nothing new about that. I waited for the Youtube etc. links to emerge and I was lucky to watch and listen all three. And the performance was exquisite. After reading the thread further, some breakfast etc. I set on to rewatch, but alas, all were taken down already. And my computer does not allow any contact with Mediafire site, what a dissappointment! It seems so unfair if Adam's powerful and impeccable act is forever lost. Any chance of the video being uploaded to some other site that I could see it again? If that is not possible an mp3 would be nice, too. Well, maybe I will find a friend with a cable tv card who I could bribe to lending it to me if the show really is broadcasted on MTV3 MAX. Then I could watch it a few times if the recording will function (will be lost after I return the card but better than nothing, huh?).
I know I was lucky to see the performance at all. But you know the feeling when you can't get enough? I'll have my fingers crossed for Ellen, all three links saved now for trying and I will be hoping for the best. However, I am truly happy for Adam for this great start with the new songs and very thankful of this site and the people here which allows sinking further in the awesomeness that he is.
PS I am a bit lost with the time zones and it seems that in the near future I will not be able to stay awake between 4am and 7am our time when most of the posts are written. Could you tell me which time zone is default on the site? And still another stupid one, what exactly are OTT and ETA that are commonly used in different situations?
[wanders in wearing lolly covered hat]
Aww bb, sorry you've been feeling so sick.
Ok, let me see what I can answer for you.
OTT = Over The Top. This is an english expression that typically means "excessive, often in an eyerolling way"
ETA = Edited To Add. This means that someone has modified their post, and are adding extra information than what was originally posted. Its considered a courtsey, particularly if its a factual correction, as people downstream may be responding to what was originally said.
If we aren't getting the name of a Finnish newspaper correct, please let us know. Nicely. We really aren't trying to be dense or obnoxious. We just don't know the language so we tend to pick the closest phrase we recognize.
There is no default time zone on ATOP. However, since ATOP started as a U.S. creation, it tends to be populated heavily during the traditional US hours (hence some frustration from our Aussie and New Zealand members!). Anyone can post at any hour of the day, though. When it comes to television appearances, the timezone convention is EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST). [shrug] Its how American television works as the country is so large. Every U.S. show will first air in EST. There will always be a repeat in Pacific Standard Time (PST), sometimes intermediate ones in Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Central Standard Time (CST), depending on the show. However, the first airing is always EST.
As for YouTubes being pulled......[sigh] Yell at NBC. They pull them down as fast as anyone can get them up. People do the best they can. Q3 tryies to keep good ones up on the front page, but like most of us, she has a full time job and family responsibilities. We all just do our best to balance berting and RL.
Feel better!
