Why did Adam tweet about falsetto? My guess is someone(s) remarked about his great falsetto in BTIKM. And, to trained singers, falsetto is sometimes considered a "cop out" when you can't sing a high note in full voice. It doesn't take nearly as much technique. So, a little like saying that Mozart uses "too many notes" or Van Gogh paints "pretty colors." Or, in my profession of interpreting, when someone compliments me about what a great job I did and I ask, "Oh, do you know sign language?" and they reply "No, but it looked real pretty." : : : [thinks to self, "You have no frickin' idea of how hard that was to interpret. I could have been reciting nursery rhymes or telling dirty jokes and you wouldn't know the difference."] Sometimes it just gets to you. They mean it as a compliment, but it is slightly demeaning. Maybe for Adam, as bad as being told he has granny fans.

WHITEMENACE WHITE MENACE I shot some footage of Adam Lambert with Fernando and Greg on 99.7 NOW this morning enjoy: ow.ly/8B4md5 minutes ago ETA: This video is HD, but only played for 3 plus minutes then it's all black. ETA2: Hmm, I think they corrected it, it was 20 minutes plus earlier, now is only 3 minutes.

Yeah, my thinking about BTIKM is similar. I know Q3 thinks it's the money (HAC-type songs sell more albums, while Top 40 songs sell more singles and they want to push the album). The money may be a part of it, too, but Adam wants to be a Top 40 artist. It would make no sense to jeopardize his entire era just for some extra albums sold. (or maybe I just have too much faith in labels...) I do think that they need to push for BTIKM to be at least a moderate hit, at least on HAC, because otherwise you get a perception that OMGthisisafailedera and then nobody wants to associate with it (see Aguilera's last album). My thinking is they are going with BTIKM for a Kelly Clarkson-type opening, where the stronger song was clearly Stronger (no pun intended haha), but they opened with MKIA so that the era builds up, and not down. That being said, it will be interesting for me to see what single they choose after BTIKM. It would make sense, TBH, to go with Trespassing first, and then Cuckoo. Put Trespassing out while the album drops. This gives it the most name recognition (if you have a song on radio of the same name, it's clear this is the name of the album). This is what they did with Kelly (Stronger) and also this is what KP did with Teenage Dream. The Teenage Dream comparison is interesting, because Firework was only the THIRD release of that album, even though many think it is the BEST song of the album and definitely smashed all over. So, for me, IDEAL situation would be: 1. BTIKM. Goes Top 5 on HAC and Top 15-Top 10 on Top 40. 2. Trespassing. Goes Top 5 on Top 40 and something like Top 10 on HAC. 3. Cuckoo. Goes number 1 all over the place and it's the song of the summer. 4. Shady/other. Does pretty well too. Now, all of this also depends on how long it takes songs to build on radio. If BTIKM is an impossibly slow builder, whatever they release next will need to be the song of the summer, so my model goes down. ETA: It also depends how strong of a song Trespassing is. If it can't make it to Top 5, I agree, it shouldn't be the second release, because it jeopardizes the era too much. Just put Cuckoo out and smash. Dunno, I'm just hoping things will work out. Ok, I'm out. I can't see BTIKM moving into the Pop Top 20 in the US, maybe in Canada. But I do think that the strategy makes sense. Adam clearly is positioning himself to reach a broader audience. He needs to get on music buyers consideration set. I love Adam, but as a marketer, I am not a fan of the FYE album cover. Sure it got press but it is off putting to many people -- including most men I know -- gay and straight. Not to rehash but the combo of the FYE album cover + glam rock/pop + the S&M retro dance pop lead single (FYE) + the AMAs + the makeup and style + the FYE Tour Style = Adam has a very very loyal niche fanbase. The one song that really broke thru for Adam was WWFM -- a mid-tempo ballad that was broadly acceptable. Now he has learned a lot. He has the opportunity to become really big and appears to be going for it. So he needs to reposition, build broad credibility as a musician-singer-songwriter. And repositioning an artist are the same as any brand --- you need to have a clear destination and articulate the brand vision and mission. - Define the category you are in. - Define the position you want. - Build the message to communicate the message. BTIKM is the perfect song to position Adam as a mainstream pop artist. My guess is still that BTIKM will do OK on radio, and the next single will be a big radio hit. ETA: I wish Adam would be nerdy more often. And I would love to have him tutor the Idol judges about vocal terms -- like "pitchy"!! This really makes sense to me with everything coming out from reviewers who have heard the album, who sometimes seem puzzled about this single choice for this album. I think the next single is the one that they feel is the big hit, and that they are trying to reach a broader audience before they go for the big smash. Maybe this is to get him out there a bit and have critics rave about his performances, remind people of just how good he is, build buzz about his talent, and get him out there for a minute looking good and being appealing in a way that is easily recognizable for most people in order to rebrand him for a broader base as a soft start to Era 2. But what do I know? My prediciton? This music video will also be safe and will showcase the more traditional, very sexy looking, broadly appealing, heartstoppingly good looking Adam. But never fear fellow wild Adam lovers, in my guesstimation, after Cukoo smashes, the next performances and video will mix things up again and give us the other side of Adam that many of us also love. With Adam, whatever side you like will come with a little waiting. As for me, I like all the sides, and everything else in between.
