Thankfully SOPA and PIPA were stopped dead in their tracks by the efforts of hundreds of Websites last week -- mostly lead by two sites -- Wipipedia and Google. BUT the dark forces of the mufti-national media companies (Time Warner, Fox/Media Corp, Viacom, Disney etc.) are working hard to shut down access to music, video, movie, TV Shows and other material online. I am opposed to piracy but I am more opposed to restraining the free exchange of ideas and information around the world via the Web just in the hopes that these huge empires can make an extra buck.
And a smaller effort to make UK ISPs the policeman for pirated music distribution failed to stem piracy in the UK and may actually have hurt legal music sales. The is a story about this -- the goose who laid the golden egg.

I've got a question...it's kinda *goofball*....
How do I get the margins on this board to stay the same? Some pages I can zoom in and the margins go in with it...the font gets bigger and I can read without scrolling left/right. Other pages....not so....I zoom in and the margins go off the screen. ???
I haven't been caught up on a thread in days! (I still have some threads I've never had time to totally catch up on.) This place rocks! I'm still flailing over Leno and Ellen! And loving all the interviews! So many times I'm reading a thread and want to comment, but I'm so far behind it's ridiculous. Love all u guise!
BTW...thanks to those who answered my Q about headsets...ordered mine and they shipped yesterday. And I had my son totally redo my computer settings so my vids play correctly. I'm ready for era 2!

Yeah, I wonder why Adam keeps saying if it wasn't for his fans he may not have been making this 2nd album. That doesn't compute for me. He's said it at least 3 times now... Maybe he means that he wouldn't have been able to make the album he is making now without the support of the fan base. He might not have been given the same amount of time to make the album if RCA was worried about fans not sticking around, he might not have had the same freedom if it wasn't apparent that fans will support him in whatever style of album puts out; things might have gone differently if his fan base hadn't hung with him during various gates... Maybe he means some of that?

MY TAKE: It is really simple -- IF fans did not buy his first album, he would not get to do a second album. Every artist who is successful knows that they need to have fans buy their music, but few say it as directly as Adam does.

Maybe not making a 2nd album the way he wanted it to be? With all the people he wanted, writers, producers, time in his hands, the right promo, knowing that we're so loyal and passionate, we're not going to go anywhere and always be here for him? Just a thought. Yeah, maybe being allowed to take his time and use his vision...

I agree with Susie that Adam would have still had a second album, but the label might not have spent the kind of money on it that they have on Trespassing. So he would have had AN album, but not THIS album. Another way of looking at it is that he wouldn't have had the sales of FYE if it wasn't for all of the fans buying it. (That includes pretty much anyone who bought it unless there were some impulse buyers who bought an album from someone they didn't know.) So all of the fans buying FYE (and tour tickets, and EP/remixes, and so on!) ensured he could make another album. Just wanted to agree with whoever said up-thread that they seem to use a lot of hyphens, ellipses, etc when writing on line. I also do this. I am perfectly capable of writing correct English (except for spelling - that is a lost cause) but when I am writing on line I am trying to be far more conversational than I am in formal writing and those dots and dashes seem to add the pauses or emphasis I am trying to express. I also use the tilde (~) WAY more - actually I can't remember EVER using a tilde in formal writing. Does it even have a purpose? I also use ALL CAPS to try and add the cadence of spoken words to writing on line. Does anyone remember indenting 5 spaces for new paragraphs or leaving 2 spaces between sentences?

Sigh. Does anyone remember indenting 5 spaces for new paragraphs or leaving 2 spaces between sentences?

I M fine with nu spelling because (as is self evident to all regular ATop daily news readers) I have difficulty with traditional spelling. ETA: Battles over distribution of music, movies and so one is not over but hopefully the effort will stay focused on the sites actively engaged in illegal piracy and NOT on the whole web.
