I kind of agree with you, Girldrummer, re SS...same as Demi Lovato. I can't help but wonder how much of that is just looking for some kind of attention. SS voice is mediocre at best, and Demi keeps struggling with her addiction. But it's not for me to say, I suppose. But at the end of the day, if all media attention is on your current pronouns and how you identify, is that really what you want as an artist? I always remember Adam when he had to redirect an interviewer with "and I sing too" when all they wanted to talk about was that he was gay.

I remember the days when we 'joined' Adam in his frustration when and that media seemed intent on focussing on his appearance and orientation over the music. We blamed media yet now that the 'victim' of this attention is SS, we jump on the bandwagon and criticize his appearance rather than his music. That is the same double standard that we mourned for Adam before the press became a bit more enlightened.
Some [including myself at times] talk of our appearance preferences and that is legit but we have to be aware that it is unfair criticism if we start applying the term "natural" to the criticism as over the top and made up IS natural for Adam...it is done for himself, not us and we criticize his standards of taste and his essential being, when we claim he is not being 'natural. We just have to look back at the pictures of him at 3 an 4 years of age and listen to his youth stories to recognize that. He even referred to those times he tried to court media approval by not wearing much or any makeup in public settings, as being in "man-drag".
I think we need to give SS and Demi and who knows who, the same consideration we have learned to give Adam. I felt pretty uncomfortable when I listed to the opening lyrics of that song "Enough"....I suspect much of the reason Adam did not polish and publish that is his inherent kindness and unwillingness to be critical of others...including we, his fans. One of the many amazing benefits of stanning such a complex and fascinating person as Adam is the growth we have all been urged and pushed to make over the last 13 or so years socially as well as musically. It has been a truly wonderful trip and I have loved doing/taking that trip with the people that are equally "Mad about the man..." hehehe

It has been a truly wonderful trip and I have loved doing/taking that trip with the people that are equally "Mad about the man..." hehehe Well, I think it boils down to having preferences in how we look at celebrities and how they choose to present themselves. I'm a plain Jane myself and don't really enjoy looking at OTT anything, whether it's clothes or makeup...don't care whether it's gay or straight or anything else. I love, love, love Adam's voice and I tend to find the weird clothes and makeup distracting. But I've gotten used to that it's something he enjoys, and I love listening to him so I pretty ignore it. I'm not a fan of SS or Demi, or Lizzo or any of these other people, so their outrageous behavior and clothing (or non-clothing in Lizzo's case) doesn't entice me to WANT to listen to them. Because they don't have a voice and a talent that distracts me from the other stuff. For me personally, Adam can pretty much wear whatever the hell he wants, because at the end of the day what makes me happy is his voice and his talent.
