Report back from the i-tunes test: Yeah it works, here are the details:
I went into my i-tunes account and gifted one BTIKM to one fan-email address that is not tied to i-tunes.
(Btw, to gift on i-tunes: select the little triangle next to the single or album you are gifting and a little pop-up lets you select 'gift this song/album'. Then you get a receipt form, where you have to specify the recipient email (fan-address in our case). I also had to specify my name and I could write craazy there, if I wanted to and it would show up as such for the recipient.
All the rest is nicely explained there, so just follow directions.
The recipient sees the gift in their fan-email inbox.
It's sent from do_not_reply@itunes.com "itunes store" and states:
"You have received an iTunes Store Gift from craazy. (realemail@gmail.com)." (this email address is the one linked to your i-tunes account, not your own fan email, so the sender delurks and reveals a real live email address). Therefore, please only gift on Sunday to folks whom you don't mind seeing your real email address. (lousy english, I know...sorry)
You don't see any more personal info from the sender than this.
When you click the "redeem" button it launches your itunes and prompts you to enter your password (this itunes was linked to another email account not the recipient's fandom email).
Then you get "thank you for redeeming your code, your gift is now downloading" and it clearly downloads BTIKM again (even though you already have it on itunes).
Yay! so it looks like it works, except sender needs to be ok to reveal their email...so use it among friends.
Also, my balance at i-tunes was not yet charged, neither when I sent the gift, not when it was downloaded on the other side, so I need to check when this actually happens. May be some kind of batch-job and is therefore delayed.
So, now we just need to use the members thread to get organized.
I need to leave my computer right now, so I leave this task to others.
Have fun gifting away!
