Lil Nas X may have inspired his brother to come out, but the Grammy winner wasn't the first musician to embrace his sexuality in public. In an interview with Heavy earlier this year, he spoke about looking up to fellow queer pop star Adam Lambert for paving the way. "I did thank him in person, actually. I really appreciate all the love that he’s shown me and I definitely don’t take it for granted. And I appreciate all the doors that him and people like him opened," said Lil Nas X at the time. Lambert later responded to his comments during an episode of Watch What Happens Live. "That was very flattering that he even knows who I am," said the American Idol alum. "I think he’s such a rock star, and so bold and brave, and I love what he’s doing."

Adam Adam Adam! Of course he knows who you are. He may be bold and brave as you say but you are the blazing light that helped create the path for him to take that journey. You are the icon in the making who will be known not only for your incredible talent and vocals but for your groundbreaking achievements for yourself and others.

Is it just me, or does LNX's "thank you" to Adam ring a bit hollow? It sounds to me like it's something that's on his "to-do" list that he has to check off. Something that's just a PR obligation. Nice that he got a Grammy. Good luck to him. I guess I'm just feeling cynical this morning. Hoe my mood improves!
My AL pocket calendar has Adam on the "I'm Listening" show discussing mental health on September 20. Should be interesting!

I agree, I think I mentioned before I thought he kind of dissed Adam in the beginning. Then when people got on him about it makes this statement. At least that was my impression. And, he record was number 1 before he came out. Not sure if he won the grammy before or after. So, IMO, no where near what Adam put on the the line. LNX will never reach Adam's stature in anything. Just my opinion.

LNX won 2 Grammy's out of 6 nominations. The following year he got another 6 nominations but didn't win any. He never said anything negative about Adam, he just didn't acknowledge him at first. But that could have been because he was being accused of trying to get ahead and attention by concentration on being gay. His response was very defensive and that no other gay artists had done what he had done or something like that. He did not single out Adam but even that made no sense because Sam had already won 4 Grammy's or more and an Oscar and Frank had won several Grammy's. None of them were out when they first had hits but they were out when they won. Adam had been cheering LNX on so I was glad that he finally recognized Adam. That was more than some others have done.
Not sure why Adam always sells himself short but he does that with any mention of Freddie too. Of course LNX knows who he is. I notice that Wiki even has LNX listed as pop-rock, rock as well as rap. Hell, Adam does not even claim rock on Wiki or hardly anywhere else. You have Carrie Underwood now trying to present herself as country rock as she is no longer able to compete with other younger country women who are now in the limelight. She knows she has to pivot to look different. Demi, Miley and LNX and even Harry Styles sometimes are trying to claim rock. I don't understand Adam's obsession with pop when he is a true rock star if he claimed and owned it. HA. I get it, gays love pop and the pop divas and maybe the young guys he hangs around with love pop more too. But even his recognition of Slyvester and his love of disco did not seem to get him much notice on the club scene. He is more recognized worldwide as a rockstar more than he is pop but he doesn't seem to take advantage of it. Oh well, I'm still hoping he will put something out that will give him a chance at a Grammy but he has to get on rock radio (they are not obsessed with the youngsters, lol) cause that ship has sailed with pop.

Adam is still around and bigger than ever for more than his outsize talent...his sunshine personality and communication savvy are almost [if not more] important because while they are a slow burn, in the end, his way of making everyone around him feel good...better...is rare and invaluable. How many of us would be as die hard fans as we are if he had been just another talented jerk!? He is just truly amazing!

lurleene, thanks for reminding me that LNX was not yet "out" when he won his Grammy, as was true of the others you mentioned. Adam took that leap from the beginning.
It doesn't take long for most pop-rock stars to reach their peak and then get eclipsed by the newest kids on the block. They all know that fact and they try to adapt. Adam was in his late twenties when he was on Idol. It might have been a blessing. He had done a lot of stuff before Idol. I think he has a very realistic attitude about getting older in the music business. He's trying to diversify when the opportunities arise. He accepts praise well and doesn't gloat about it. That's not his style.
And it's absolutely absurd that all the artists you mentioned have at least one Grammys, some of them a boatload. Yet, Adam, the one-in-a-million voice who is a Gift From God, has one Grammy nomination. One nom, no wins. Insane. I keep hoping that Adam's biggest chart-topping, barrier-breaking mega-hit is yet to come.
