Well, I like any kind of gravy. On biscuits, but especially on rice. And how does Anthrogeek coming back spark a convo that is sooo bad for my diet?

[grin] YOU started it with the coconut marshmallows (with mzsue subsequently cringing over American culinary anachronisms)!! ;D I'll have to go back to see what that has to do with Anthro. As I recall, we were feeding her day-old pastries, slightly off sandwiches, and ancient chopped liver popsicles!

I really didn't even consider missing it (well... maybe for about 1/2 a second!). I feel bad that I only get to 1 per year. My father goes to the other 2, so he does have family there. Sadly, I really dislike listening to these concerts - there are always kids that are off the beat, wrong notes, squeeks and such. I LOVE that these kids are learning and there isn't any way to get better other than to keep playing. I have HUGE respect for the music teachers - they are far better people than I!! No way I would ever have the patience they do There is one plus side to having to watch Idol on DVR - I get to fastforward through all the Not-Adam parts! Silver-lining :D You brought a smile of nostalgia to my lips. I played violin as well as piano growing up, and I know how excruciating it can sound to hear youngsters perform as they are just learning. My parents went to recitals and concerts for not only me, but my three siblings growing up, and I don't know how they managed without ear plugs. That is true loving dedication. The last concert in high school I had a solo in one of the orchestra pieces. For some work-related reason, my dad did not attend. I understood at the time, and did not feel slighted by it. I knew that listening to a high school orchestra squeak thru the classics was unpleasant for a music lover like him. However, well into my adulthood, my dad confessed to me he still felt very bad to have missed it. He didn't realize that I had this huge solo or he would have moved heaven and earth to be there. My dad was the stoic, slightly distant, disciplinarian type of father in those days, and being in touch with the kids emotional needs and musical spirit seemed to be my mother's responsibility. Hearing his confession years later, and how he was haunted he had not been there for me just blew me out of the water. Even those many years later, I was deeply touched at his love and concern for me. Of course, as a good mom, supporting your son's love of music is an important priority of yours. Glad you are determined, despite your love for Adam, to be there for your kid! Good for you, mom. Thank you, you two. I also have those memories :D. Been there with my violin too! My father is a musician and I startet quite early, I'd loved to have had a piano but we didn't have that - but plenty of violins instead. Loved to play "real music" but hated to practise dull things like technique. Music school orchestra was the thing I enjoyed the most, concerts and all. Dropped the hobby at my teens 'cause it was too time consuming. You know teens, they are just too busy to spend 3 week nights at the music school + the time required to practise at home. (We don't have music at that level at school like you in US, so it is an additional hobby outside school, through music schools.) My dad was always there to support me, and both of my parents always attended the concerts when ever possible.
