A prominent part of the BTIKM music video has Adam squeezing a pomegranate – that appears to symbolize a heart. More than squeezing the pomegranate, Adam is actually destroying its vital life force.
The pomegranate is native to the Western Himalayas in ancient Persia (present day Iran) and has been cultivated for thousands of years. The fruit is highly valued for its beauty, culinary uses, and medicinal benefits. Carbonized exocarp of the fruit has been identified in Early Bronze Age levels of Jericho in Israel, as well as Late Bronze Age levels of Hala Sultan Tekke on Cyprus and Tiryns.[citation needed] A large, dry pomegranate was found in the tomb of Djehuty, the butler of Queen Hatshepsut in Egypt; Mesopotamian cuneiform records mention pomegranates from the mid-Third millennium BC onwards.
The forbidden fruit of The Garden of Eden may have been a Pomegranate. Pomegranate was the symbol of fertility in ancient Persian culture. Ancient Egyptians regarded the pomegranate as a symbol of prosperity and ambition. Pomegranates were known in Ancient Israel as the fruits which the scouts brought to Moses to demonstrate the fertility of the "promised land". In Hinduism, the pomegranate (Sanskrit: Beejpur, literally: replete with seeds) symbolizes prosperity and fertility, and is associated with both Bhoomidevi (the earth goddess) and Lord Ganesha (who is also called Bijapuraphalasakta, or the one fond of the many-seeded fruit). Introduced to China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE), the pomegranate (Chinese: 石榴; pinyin: shíliu) in olden times was considered an emblem of fertility and numerous progeny.

Yesterday afternoon an online protest was started by PETP (People for the Ethical Treatment of Pomegranates). The campaign was on Twitter and the members of the previously unknown group used the hashtag #DBMTPoms. If you look on

I have researched this trend and determined that the hashtag #DBMTPoms stands for Don't Be Mean To Pomegranates. It is a protest the needless killing of multiple pomegranates by @adamlambert in his music video "Better Than I Know Myself". I cannot find out much about this protest group. It appears to have just popped up out of nowhere.
I love Adam’s new video, but I also understand where the pomegranate rights activists are coming from. Why did Adam have to use real pomegranates? And why did he need to rip the vital life force out of them? What do you think?

Their point? That killing pomegranates for to promote a song is intolerable and that people who needlessly destroy pomegranates deserve to be publicly shamed. PETP's brand-new "Blow the Whistle" campaign will target pom wasters in major cities throughout the U.S. and Canada this winter.

The BTIKM Video: Taking Another Look

Since the music video for Better Than I Know Myself premiered, many have attempted to understand its meaning. Dark/Light, Good/Evil, Yin/Yang, Etc/Etc. Fans have analyzed the video using mythology, psychology, and advanced trigonometry. While these theories are interesting, we may have overlooked a much simpler interpretation.
Let's start with the Dark side—things are pretty obvious here. Dark Adam clearly likes sharp pointy things, such as a set of stainless steel ice cream cone molds left over from an earlier career as an ice cream shop entrepreneur. Turns out that a shop that only sells mint chocolate chip was doomed to failure, which made Dark Adam quite grouchy. From the skulls in the room, we can see that one of Dark Adam's friends is a forensic zoologist who likes to give him presents from the office. Despite his Dark-ness, Dark Adam is too nice to insult his friend, so he displays these dreary bones and gets even grouchier. Because the room is so cold, Dark Adam must wear a heavy coat and boots all the time, and he tries to stay warm by pacing, flailing, and drinking fancy tequila. He wants to adopt a healthier lifestyle like his sexy next-door neighbor, but making juice without a juicer is a messy business. He mocks his neighbor but he secretly longs to go over there and pop him some corn and mend the holes in his sweater. Life sucks, basically.
Meanwhile, Light Adam likes to shop at antique stores, read, write, and listen to music. He also enjoys long walks on the beach, meaningful conversations, and is looking for a friendship that could turn into something more. But beneath the healthy, tea-sipping façade, we see signs that all is not right in Light Adam's world. His fluffy sweater is full of rips and holes. He longs for popcorn but none is to be had. His tea is tepid and his next-door neighbor keeps staring at him. Light Adam wishes he could meet Dark Adam and help him take care of his plants better. He wishes he could teach him how to play chess. But even the Queen's Gambit fails to win over his Dark neighbor. Life sucks.
It seems the fates will keep the neighbors apart forever and a happy ending is not to be. In fact, things take a turn for the worse when Dark Adam notices that the cozy fire he built has gotten out of control, and his neighbor seems a bit annoyed by the decrease in air quality.
It's then that Dark Adam has an epiphany. He realizes that his medges are not just made for walkin' and that the power to escape has been right there on his feet the whole time. Dark Adam kicks some glass, and finally, contact is made.
Fast-forward a couple of decades, and we see a handsome lad walking home from his parents' tea-and-ice-cream shop. Happy endings are possible, after all. Yay!
