Of course, you're right on all counts, lurleene. And you have said it many times before. I guess it just hits me in the gut when I think of woulda/coulda/shoulda of it all. As you say, his was at the older age limit on Idol tp begin with. He gained a crazy loyal fanbase, had a very successful first international solo tour, etc. But he never did get the radio play he deserved, and as you've said many times, that seems to be the key issue. Hardly anybody hears his music outside his core fanbase. Sure, some of his songs and charted decently, but no big mega-hits that you hear constantly for months on end. Queen is the gift that keeps on giving. I can't imagine his career without them. He will always be part of their legacy, which is a huge thing. And he's been smart to get involved in various other projects. He'll be fine, and he'll leave his mark, that's for sure. And of course, he was openly gay from the outset, so there's that. And sadly it was not because of the DJs cause they did want to play him but corporate was in control of who got the radio play. Back when we could call the radio stations, my dj would say how much he liked Adam too but could not play him until he reached top 20. That did not apply to Cook and Kris and Daughtry or Kelly. By the time Adam would reach top 20, the song was falling off in other markets so it would only last a few weeks. When BTIKM came out and they would not play Adam unless he reached top 20. But they were playing Durbin and Haley Reinhart who were nowhere near top 20. It was too much and it sent me over the edge, lol. I just could not take it anymore so I stopped listening to that station. Then there was that big radio event that was broadcast on stations around the country. Adam was one of the acts in the event and when he came in to be interviewed by the DJs they said he was so good looking ( and they made the point that they were not gay, lol) and talented. Then Adam said he did not get much radio play and they fell silent. I think they were a bit embarrassed and knew he was correct but it was out of their hands. Adam knew the deal but it made me rather sad. And it never got better. |
