We are the Champions 👑 QUEEN became a worldwide band thanks to Japanese fans. Actually, my cousin is the first vice president of the Japanese fan club. I went to see it with my cousin yesterday. I've been watching it ever since my first visit to Japan. Freddie Mercury must be smiling in heaven too. twitter.com/hirotosuzuki/status/1757928346992919008

Summary of Queen + Adam Lambert's performance in Japan: A culminating night filled with loud choruses and human love #Queen #QAL #QAL2024Japan @queen40jp twitter.com/rollingstonejp/status/1758099591684301102Summary of Queen + Adam Lambert's performance in Japan: A culminating night filled with loud choruses and human love
The dome tour held by Queen + Adam Lambert as part of "The Rhapsody Tour", which included 5 performances in 4 cities and is one of the largest in the history of Japanese performances, has come to a close with great success. We present this magazine's exclusive live report of Masatoshi Arano (Shinko Music)'s final performance at Tokyo Dome on February 14th. (*The live photo was taken on February 13th)
A "new interpretation"of the sci-fi opening The footage from the Freddie Mercury memorial concert held at Wembley Stadium on April 20th, 1992 was nothing short of spectacular. The remaining three members of Queen - Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon, along with seniors such as Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Elton John, and Ian Hunter, as well as James Hetfield and Axl.・A dream night in which Rose, Queen's children, and even Liza Minnelli performed lead vocals. Among them, "Under Pressure", a duet between Annie Lennox and David Bowie, and George Michael's fit were by far the best. There were even rumors that George Michael would join Queen.
After that, John Deacon was not seen in Queen in the 2000s, when he teamed up with former Free ~ Bad Company member Paul Rodgers. Paul Rodgers has overwhelming skills as a singer, but his background is in the blues. After the Freddie memorial concert, which consisted of a wide variety of guest vocalists, I felt that the stage was narrow, and although it was a top-notch super session, it was different from a "Queen live". I couldn't help but think. Paul Rodgers himself later admitted that he felt the band's musicality was far removed from Queen's.
A savior appears just as many fans were wondering who would be able to shoulder the burden of being a huge burden even for a singer as famous as Paul Rodgers. Queen + Adam Lambert was formed in 2009 after a dramatic encounter on the audition show "American Idol." Their show at "SUMMER SONIC 2014" in August 2014, where they headlined, was a show that entertained new and old fans by taking a difficult approach: not daring to imitate Freddie, but never damaging the image of the songs... It had become. Adam Lambert, who is able to comprehensively express on multiple channels, if not all of the approaches taken by various singers from different angles at the Freddie memorial concert, has carefully considered the delicate psychology of Queen fans. He should have gone on tour. The fact that the abbreviation "QAL" has become established among fans is a sign of respect for Adam, who has worked through trial and error to make this project work in the best possible way while preserving his own individuality. . I believe that the two-way relationship and "exchange" with fans, rather than the one-sided form of stars providing entertainment, is what has kept Queen + Adam Lambert going for over 10 years.
After the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" was released in 2018 and became a huge hit and caused a social phenomenon, "The Rhapsody Tour" brought new challenges to QAL. What kind of show would satisfy the new fans who joined the movie as a result of the movie, while also thrilling the traditional Queen fans? The production and structure were carefully crafted to make this happen. The Rhapsody Tour ” is what makes it special. This tour, which started in 2019, was completed in January 2020 with performances at Saitama Super Arena, Kyocera Dome Osaka, and Nagoya Dome. Although there was a period of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, this long tour, which has visited countries all over the world, has now returned to Japan to conclude. The four-dome tour will begin at Vantelin Dome Nagoya on February 4th, followed by Kyocera Dome Osaka, Sapporo Dome, and Tokyo Dome. It was the first performance in Hokkaido in 42 years, and it received a warm welcome. A giant snow sculpture in the shape of the robot (commonly known as Frank), which is famous for the Queen emblem and the cover of "Dedicated to the World", will appear at the Sapporo Snow Festival. . Roger and Adam also rushed to the venue incognito, creating a buzz.
Then came the final day of the Japan tour, the Tokyo Dome performance on February 14th. About five minutes after the scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m., the background music while the audience was being admitted changed to a synth sound. After about 7 to 8 minutes, the arena, which was already standing, was filled with loud cheers as the lights went dark. What was projected on the screen was an image of a huge machine and a mass-produced robot. From the 1984 album "The Works", "Machine World" co-written by Roger Taylor and Brian May is a sci-fi opening that segues into Roger's "RADIO GAGA", which was included on the same album.
The robot from Fritz Lang's silent film "Metropolis,'' which was also featured in the "RADIO GAGA'' music video, also appears on the screen, and the past and future are linked from the beginning. Freddie Mercury contributed "Love Kills" to the soundtrack of Metropolis, which was re-edited in 1984 and produced by Giorgio Moroder. That became a movie that became inseparable from Queen. Don't miss the mention of "random access memory" in the lyrics of "Machine World." The word RAM, which was less common in 1984 than it is now, also became the title of Daft Punk's fourth album, which featured Giorgio Moroder. "Machine World'' itself, which uses a robot voice, is an electro-style rock that sounds like early Daft Punk, and was co-produced with the band by Reinhard Mack, Moroder's right-hand man who has worked on albums since "The Game". I'm most happy that they dug up these buried album tracks, gave them a new interpretation, and started with an aggressive production.
"Hammer to Fall", which was moved to tears by Freddie's appearance, and the Japanese fans
continued to sing in chorus, is also from ``The Works''. The sight of Adam and Brian dashing out onto the runway brings back memories of when this song was sung on ``LIVE AID.'' Roger was shocked by the sound of the fireworks exploding behind him and was scratching his head, but the backing vocalist's voice was tense, indicating that he was doing well. "Fat Bottomed Girls" showcases the depth of the chorus, one of Queen's strengths, with support members joining in. Adam stirred up the audience, and the room was already singing in loud chorus.
“Jigoku e Michizure” may seem easy, but it is actually a difficult song that requires singing up an octave. However, Adam, who is in top condition, sings with ease and charm. Support members also had a chance to shine, with bassist Neil Fairclough playing a familiar riff to much applause. Neil used to play with Hamish Stewart, formerly of the Average White Band, and is no stranger to funk. He perfectly fills the void left by John Deacon.
It's also great to hear Roger's vocals on "I'm in Love with My Car" from the 1975 masterpiece "A Night at the Opera." The way they sing while hitting a heavy beat reminds us of Queen's hard side and edge. Although they are now a band that is widely loved by the public, early Queen's main focus was on sharply designed hard rock, not pop. From there, it's the vehicle series, and the song is "Bicycle Race." Adam rides a rotating silver motorcycle and performs provocative actions that excite fans.
From there, when we entered "Born to Love You," there was a scene where Adam snuggled up to Brian and put his hand on his shoulder. It was a heartwarming moment, as Adam seemed to be paying attention to his surroundings at first, but he seemed to have completely adapted to the band. While a mirror ball was spinning above his head, Brian looked so youthful as he performed fast tapping during his guitar solo that it was hard to believe that he was 76 years old.
At this point, the lights went down and the atmosphere completely changed, and Adam's chant of "I Want It All" began, and I was overwhelmed by the skill of his vocalization. Brian sings the middle verse, picks up the tempo, then runs up to the runway and performs a passionate guitar solo. Before I knew it, chairs had been set up on the runway, and Brian was the MC there. ``Good evening, my Japanese friends. How are you? It's true! Please sing with me,'' he says in Japanese, and begins to play and sing on his 12-string acoustic guitar. Spike Edney, who has been supporting Queen since the 1980s, provides modest support on the keyboard. Brian sings “Love of My Life” as if he is savoring every word, and a chorus naturally ensues. And on the screen, next to Brian, was the image of Freddie from that day...Although it was a "promise", he still couldn't help but cry with emotion. Continuing with "Hand in Hand," Brian sings the vocals for a while before passing the baton to Adam. This song is special to Japanese fans, and the lyrics are projected onto the screen, which naturally leads to a huge chorus. It felt like the climax continued without waiting for the halfway point, but this day's show was still amazing from here. The timpani solo that Roger passionately performed at the Montreal performance in 1981 was played on the screen, followed by "Today's Roger" performing a drum solo. Although his appearance has become more somber, he strikes aggressively with a sharpness that belies his age. With that heat still intact, the song enters “Under Pressure.” Adam and Roger sing an uplifting melody on earth, where both Freddie and David Bowie have left. Immediately after that, Adam noticed the appeal from the audience and introduced an illustration of the members drawn by a fan. "Humanity'' Embedded in the Stage DirectionDuring ``Tie Your Mother Down,'' the effect of the screens placed three-dimensionally in the front and back stood out even more. Brian's sharp slide guitar is clear in the solo. With Brian, Roger, and Adam all on the runway, "Desire Called Love" began, and once again the venue sung in chorus. I was once again impressed by the number of famous songs that I couldn't help but sing along to. The part from “Take My Breath Away” to “Live Forever” is the true essence of singer-Adam Lambert. Freddie's masterful singing, which shows off his unique characteristics without being overly aware of his melodies, creates a huge impression here as well. The remaining reservations about the original Queen have been reduced to a large extent, and Adam's individuality has come to the fore, which clearly seems to have produced good results on this tour. When Adam finishes singing, it shifts to Brian's guitar solo. After playing a passage from "Sakura Sakura," he continues to play a swaying solo based on the second movement of Dvořák's "From the New World", a melody that is popularly known in Japan as "The Sun Sets on a Distant Mountain." The visual direction of Brian playing while floating among the stars in outer space also suited his character well. Then, as the song continues into "Sad World" and a withering tree appears on the screen, the subtitle of "Machine World" at the beginning, "Back To Humans", flashes through my mind and makes me realize it. ...Reclaiming humanity is the theme of this tour. Is it too much to think that the songs were selected based on the world situation, where wars continue to rage even in the 2020s? Along with the earnest lyrics, the "Japanese'' character on Brian's T-shirt left a strong impression on me. Brian, who is an expert on Japan, would naturally understand the meaning of this kanji. The effect of projection mapping was tremendous, and the performance of "Kind of Magic'', in which the images of the members were brightly colored, was reminiscent of the Disney movie "Fantasia". After introducing the members, the group once again invited the audience to sing along with "Don't Stop Me Now". Even towards the end of the song, Adam was tireless and continued to push through all the way to the high notes of "All About Love", which gave me goosebumps many times. During "The Show Must Go On", the palace that had previously stood tall above the stage completely collapsed. This boldness is also the real thrill of a production that makes full use of images. And in the last song of the main story, "Bohemian Rhapsody," the music video footage is used wisely and combined with live music to captivate the audience. It was also fun to see Brian come out from the auction house and change into a jacket decorated with mirror fragments. During the encore, "We Will Rock You," the giant robot that graced the cover of "Dedicated to the World" (1977), affectionately known to fans as "Frank," appears on screen. This performance has also become a standard in recent years. From there, the song returns to the beginning of "Machine World" and "RADIO GAGA," with Frank clapping his hands during the latter chorus. The story seems to be that a swarm of mass-produced robots is destroyed and humanity is protected... And at the very end, during "Legendary Champion," Brian, wearing a T-shirt with "Once in a Lifetime" printed on it, played a brave phrase, and a large amount of confetti rained down, bringing the curtain to a close. Considering his age, we cannot deny the possibility that this will be his "last visit to Japan,'' as rumor has it. Even after aging, Brian and Roger still performed with vigor, and there was no sense of sadness that said, "This is the end.'' As Brian was about to leave, he looked back over and over and blew kisses to the audience, as if he was reluctant to leave. In my eyes, the expression on his face seemed to be telling him, "See you later.'' Let's look forward to the next chapter of this tour's culmination night.

Before the event started, did you see the lovingly hand-painted flag posted at the speed of light on the inside of the fence in front of Hanamichi from the back seat? I took a picture of Adam being happy and blowing a kiss. Have a special time with Arigatogozaimas! twitter.com/zuzu_stillLove/status/1757773498888634801
