I thought Adam was going to be huge as well. I didn't expect him to go full hard rock like a Matallica. But I thought he would be rock leaning cool with pop influences like a Lenny Kravitz and Prince. That was his vibe on Idol and everyone was talking and excited about him. And Lenny and Prince were winding down so it left an opening. But he wanted Pop so he was competing with Gaga, Kesha, Katy, Madonna with Pop and Chris Brown, Usher and Derulo who were excellent, take no prisoners, dancers who had been stars since their teens. Too many lived in the Pop and Pop/dance lane. He was good but at almost 30 it was a little too late to really capture that audience, especially when even younger artists like Bieber, Selena were coming in with the Pop or dance/pop. I don't think the labels were ever really on board with that direction for Adam so the support was tepid, maybe? But he did what excited him and he did okay in such a crowded field. Even better fronting Queen. He survived on major talent and charisma alone and did end up being one of the most successful Idols worldwide anyway. HA. I just wish more people had heard some of the great music that he wrote and recorded on his albums. But many of his really good songs didn't really fit into the Pop or dance/Pop mode so I guess that is why they were never pushed.

I remember the young cashier laughed at his album cover when I bought his first CD. I remember thinking "oh oh, that's not good" and trying to defend it. I lived through the glam rock era, she hadn't!

I lived through the glam rock era, she hadn't! That is so funny. When I went to purchase FYE, there were a few other ladies asking for the album too, but they did not have it. I didn't like the cover much but mainly cause it went a bit too far and I thought it would cost him sales but I liked the Glam rock music. It was the disco that I could not stand then or now except for a few artists. HA. But why would anyone think reviving disco was a good thing? If you are still clubbing or at a Pride event it makes sense, I guess. But I lost interest in clubs well before I turned 30, lol. Otherwise, I want to hear some good music rock, alt, pop-rock, ballads or soulful with some great vocals.
