Gotta say ita with this. I'm not ready to declare BTIKM dead in the water until Adam has done his rounds of the big East Coast stations (and whatever else he has up his sleeve for next week) and the video comes out on VH1. Lots of people know WAY more than I do (I know nothing at all, lol), but Adam has said that BTIKM was chosen as a "bridge" song between FYE and Trespassing. I'm guessing that they made the decision based on the fact that Adam's big hit was WWFM, and BTIKM is in that same genre. So it's a way of reintroducing Adam without freaking people out with a song that's too OTT. Whether it's working or not, or doing what they expected, I have no idea. And I will NEVER underestimate the factors working against Adam, which absolutely does include the fact that he's gay, and a white male trying to do pop, and an Idol grad. Like Adam says, he's trespassing all over the music scene, and there is a hell of a lot of black-and-yellow caution tape in his way. And with all that said, I do think this era will be huge for him, and really break him out, and bring him far bigger success than FYE. So no angst from me. Yes! Completely agree with all your points! I agree too. I've spent 20 years in media – trying to break in as a writer in fiction, screenwriting, etc. and one thing I can tell you – THE SHIT IS ARBITRARY. And it's frustrating as hell for anyone who wants to do something of quality, that's original and even IF you have everything that Power Broker A has said he or she wanted, they will brush you aside with barely a cursory glance and give no concrete reason whatsoever about why your project won't work, but the 10th retelling of a '60s camp cartoon needs to be a live-action blockbuster. Or that we need the 92,839th retelling of the same Danielle Steele book. Those trying to break in are continually thwarted, while random flavors of the month are celebrated. It's been going on for decades and I will never get it. The thing is, discovering new talent is what makes the Power Brokers powerful, yet that is seemingly the one thing they are most afraid of – taking a risk on something new and innovative. It sucks. And the thing is, more often than not, once some Power Broker somewhere decides you may pass that effing yellow tape, you're IN. And then they kiss your ass and put you on pedestals and lap up ever last word/note/frame of film you release and will share it with the world. God, Adam is so brilliant in that "Trespassing" is the perfect metaphor for all of this. This is exactly what he is going through right now. EVERYONE – the fans and an increasing number of media – is trying to tell the gatekeepers, the Power Brokers, what they want – excellent music by an incredibly talented artist – and they seem equally as determined to shut this down, for no other reason than arbitrary BS. Is it because he's not formula? From Idol? Gay? Or is it simply because they are being TOLD what to do and they are digging in their heels and resisting doing it to flex their arbitrary power muscles? Gaga was in the same boat. If it took 22 weeks (5.5 months) to make it to No. 1 and she had to do a club end-around – and that was with the Interscope machine behind her – but once she finally broke through, they've lost their shit over everything she's done since.

I'm in the not angsting and agree with those who say the song needs a little more time. I agree with MyS*&@^#r that it loooks like the "real" release date was supposed to be January. I think the BFM situation pushed the release AND I think it may also have been deliberate to get the smaller, red-state stations started. WWFM should have been a top 5 hit - the only reason it wasn't was that Z and the other big stations spun it like crazy early on and were slowing down before RCA could get the smaller stations on it. The spins ended up being spread over months & months. A couple big stations (even stations like Z and Q that some others seem to follow) cannot get a song to the top all by themselves. It takes tons of smaller stations also playing it. They may not be aiming for top 10 with this one - I have no clue on that - but there has been a surprising number of adds from the "red states" so far. This is total speculations, but is it possible RCA asked the big stations to hold off and give them time to get some of these other places on board? NOW they are starting the big promo and hopefully Z will support it and Q will start spinning it more outside the takeover/countdown stuff and the stations that follow that lead will join in. Just seems so strange that so many of the adds have been from places that have us all going "what the heck?" and what seems like "obvious" places haven't added at all. Or maybe I'm a hopeless optimist I'm going to skip the rest of today as it looks like an all day debate/angst and I'm just not interested in analyzing it all before it has even had a chance to happen. See y'all tomorrow

Such wonderful new interview videos today. I am amazed that there are only 4 pages. These interviews are great! As to Adam getting the recognition and air play we all think he so richly deserves, I have come to the conclusion that Adam is not, and probably never will be, for everyone's taste. (Shaking my head in bewilderment). Why? 1. Some folks simply do. not. hear. what I hear in his voice. They do not discern the difference between his voice and other pop voices. They do not hear the purity and ring. The control and subtlety. They do not hear the resonance. They do not notice the clear articulation or the interpretive arc in the songs. I would venture to guess that they do not FEEL the voice as I do. Their bodies do not naturally resonate with the frequencies of his voice. I think it goes beyond taste and style preferences, and is intrinsic and organic. 2. Adam does not and will not fit into a comfortable box. Not in his singing style, in his choice (or lack of choice) of genre, not in his presentation, not in his appearance, not in his persona. The only predictable things about Adam are that he will be unpredictable, and he will put on a hell of a performance. Some folks are uncomfortable without boxes or categories. Some folks are uncomfortable with someone who is so obviously unique and undefinable. Who is so not the boy next door (except when he is). 3. Dare I say it? Adam is too complex for some folks' taste. Complex and multi-layered vocally, musically, in terms of image, in terms of personality. One cannot "get" Adam with just a casual listen or look. It takes time and focus to see all his dimensions. Like the Berlin drawing he did. At first glance you think, "Wow. I didn't know he could draw like that. Guy has talents I was not aware of." But, it was only after I read the comments here about all the imagery in the picture, all the cultural references, all the "hidden" facets that I could fully appreciate the work. We fans have taken the time.... lots of it. But, some folks just like to dance and boogy, or put on some homogenous, generic music as background to their daily lives. Adam ain't background. 4. Yes, there is the whole "gay, gay, gay" thing. But, I am not convinced that is as big a factor as some think it is. Still, that may always be an aspect. It is what it is. Having accepted that Adam will never be for everyone, I believe, strongly, that he will have an enduring and successful career. I believe HE is very happy doing just what he is doing right now. He is artistically challenged and satisfied. If he ain't angsting, neither will I. I so agree with you, Cassie. Sometimes I wonder, how popular do we want him to be? He will make plenty of money, whatever; and I would prefer he remain just a little bit exclusive, instead of competing with the Gaga's Rihanna's et al. I feel he will always be huge outside the US, and that is fine with me as long as we see him often. That's how I also feel. To be such a megastar as MJ was is not an easy way to live. I think he'll be happier if he can live as normal life as possible - go to groceries, movies, clubs.. and produce that kind of music he himself loves.

That longer MSN interview is mahvelous! Who else can speak for 19 minutes and be so fascinating every single second. And the album notes that will detail his thoughts & feelings on each song?!?!?! chunkeymonkey wrote: I'll have at it by saying I agree with every word in your post. And what about the amazing BTIKM video? Surely we don't want that to get relegated to the irrelevant pile? Not irrelevant to US but it would be to everyone else if the single were considered a failure. I'm using your quote to say that I saw that RCA had radio promo & marketing peeps at KA's concert last night. Have that done that for Adam this era?

I wonder if RCA left it to Adam to pick a single he would have picked something else. I thought in a recent interview he said he did pick it because (not exact quote) he wanted to share himself w/ us let us in, I know he said "the dance stuff will come later, relax" lol. soo many interviews lol.

[sighs, put on mod hat *again*] Guys, discussion =/= angsting. There's *lots* of varied stuff being discussed today. If you don't want to talk sales. Don't. However, this flouncing with "if there's gonna be angst I'm not gonna play" is really annoying and unfair to people who want to discuss a legitimate topic. SCROLL if you need to. ENGAGE if you want to. DON'T CRITICIZE posters or their perfectly legitimate conversations. edited b/c spellcheck is my friend
