I like Dolly, but I just saw the latest movie she was in. Her voice is not what it used to be. Other than writing this song, what soes Dolly have to do with Whitney? Whitney and JHud knew each other and they are both black women who are diva type singers. From what I understand Jennifer and Whitnet were fans of one another. From an earlier article: "Houston actually presented Hudson with her first Grammy. Hudson said meeting her idol "almost overshadowed getting the Grammy." What does an older, white, country singer have to do with Whitney Houston? ??? I wonder what gay guy they are going to have sing Adam's songs when they do a tribute to him for being awesome and a worldwide star. Guess a straight guy would be inappropriate, and heaven forbid it be Bruno Mars, he's not a redhead nor gay . Not a vote for Dolly, just making a point. Go on and be sarcastic, but I'm telling you that if you only had one person doing a tribute tonight and it was a white, country singer- it would be seen as disrespectful to a large majority of the black community. You can believe otherwise, but I believe this would be the case.

why should the skin colour mean anything... sigh. Because it means something to those who are the same race as Whitney Houston. Because Whitney was a black woman. She is an icon in the black community. You can't dismiss that. Of course, other races can and do respect Whitney's talent, but she was a member of a race with deep ties and huge accomplishments in music. It is a tradition that African American people are proud of, and they should be! 94% of the people in Finland are Finns. Add in the people from Sweden and you are up to 99%. Looking at the demograhics of that country, it looks as if most of the country is white. The US is a racially diverse country and race relations have a long, complicated history. There are complex issues in this country that some countries just don't have. Until we are (at least a little) more color blind, we will never be truly without prejudice. It's the mentality that leads many to resent that Obama was elected with 92% of the black vote (not ME, just saying)where if it was a Catholic or a Jew or a Muslim and that was the case, cries of racism would be ruling the airwaves. One of my very best friends is black and we've covered so many topics over the last 16 years, like that my yuppie son would never have been stopped by a policeman while her equally yuppie son, same age was stopped numerous times without cause. Her son is an attorney in NYC, by the way, and never in trouble of any kind. We've discussed the problems with being hired because you ARE black and not being hired because you are black. The nuances of this problem are so pervasive that I have no hope they will ever be solved. And I have to say that if Barbra Streisand or Adele was being honored, I would have no problem with Jennifer Hudson, Aretha Franklin, or Diana Ross performing their songs.

arjanwrites Arjan Writes Great photo of @adamlambert on Red Carpet last night #musicwasbestwhen RT twitpic.com/8j25e6 That's the look! Totally focused, totally attentive on the speaker, as if nothing else is going on around them. It grabs them every time. We all have enough ego to love being the focused center of someone else's attention. Especially someone as striking looking as Adam.

yep....cuz it wouldn't be a singer trying to outsing Whitney. Dolly's version is different but equally incredible. still kinda bummed about JHUD....I think it's tacky. ??? Becaise Dolly wrote the song and hers is the most beautiful vulnerable version I have ever heard. Jennifer has a great voice but I imagine her version would be very loud and bombastic - like those annoying diet ads of hers.
