Just turned Grammys on - saw Adele crying and Sir Paul singing now...
did I miss much? My preconceived notion - I did not ;D
It was 35% good, 40% forgettable, and 25% god awful. But better than the average Grammys. (The BAFTAs were on at the same time and more fun to watch.)
Rhianna was best dressed. Adele won "everything" and looked great. Not a lot of new music or new artists. Lots of tributes. And some just weird combinations of artists.
Rhianna + Coldplay was just a bad idea -- it was just stuck together.
The dance rave was a total mess.
And Nickie Minaj was trying too hard to be controversial.
Katy Perry
Many big performances were pretty forgettable IMO.
The Beach Boys tribute was fun and Glen Campbell was nice to see on stage. Paul McCartney did his valentine song and then return for the finale -- his guitar playing was great.
Seemed like a lot of country music this year.
Alicia Keys and Bonnie Rait did the Etta James tribute and it was really nice. So was Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett.
Bruno Mars did a retro medley in the style of Jackie Wilson then in the style of James Brown -- with synchronized choreo and all. Chris Brown lip synced while doing an amazing dance number including a round out at the end that any gymnast would be proud to do.
And Jennifer Hudson did a great job singing the Whitney tribute song -- which she could not get through in rehearsal.
Overall, the highlights were Adele singing and the Whitney tribute.
My personal fav moment was Bon Iver winning Best New Artist.
