SO thrilled that Adam is with new management! Let's hope (again) that they will do him justice and get him increased exposure in every way possible. And maybe, just maybe, some radio exposure, too. So happy to hear the announcement of his next album, Afters. I read the article about it and how "naughty" it is. I just fine with naughty, but I hope most of the songs will appeal to a wide audience, regardless of the naughty. He needs a wider audience, plain and simple.

I just fine with naughty, but I hope most of the songs will appeal to a wide audience, regardless of the naughty. He needs a wider audience, plain and simple. based on the article and what we have heard thus far it sounds like the EP will be very niche -- specifically for his community and what he and his friends like to hear...it doesn't sound like something made for a wide audience. But hes in his 40s...he's gonna do what he wants to do. i'm not so sure he cares about a wider audience for his music. My guess is that he looks to his non-recorded music activities to expand his audience and brand. Which is smart as he is great at that stuff. Most of the artists from the 2009-2011 period when he broke through are not getting tons of radio play. The ones who keep a career going have branched out to acting, fashion, tv etc (see Katy Perry, Kelly clarkson, Gaga, J Hud)...Adam has been wise to do the same. And he is helped along by the QAL association

Yeah, I'm not getting a "wide appeal" from the description of that EP either.

I get the feeling that Adam's EP is mainly for Pride Month and performances/his community and he is not really aiming for a wider audience. The way he said he did not care if others liked the music, gives me that impression, tho, I could be wrong. And there is no indication that he expects to tour with this EP. Billy Porter made a big deal of being a diva and doing disco music for his community. Other's failed to buy it but his community didn't support him either cause he failed to make the BB200 with his album. There just seems to be limitations with dance/disco music from 40 and 50 year old men. Especially when the younger crowd, gay or straight, (still hanging out in the clubs and where partying is very important) can dance to Taylor, Beyonce and a number of "real" divas. Wet Dreams, Vincint song and changing the pronoun for WWFM seem to be works that are important to Adam and for his community. I hope they support his efforts. But not expecting there to be radio friendly songs or a wider appeal for this EP based on what Adam is saying about the project and what he has put out so far. And it does not even feel like the type of roll-out he has had for other projects, even for the cover album. This seems more limited in scope but it will hopefully serve his purpose. I hope he has some great Pride performances.

You may be right, Lurleene, that this EP is more for putting out new music before Pride month.

Thanks for the clarifications. I really jumped to conclusions on this one. I figured it would be a very edgy/sexual group of songs that would still be accessible to his general fans. Looks like not so much. We assume he is looking at his music marketing situation and seeing the realities of it. Right up through Velvet he had great music for a wide audience that was never heard beyond us. So frustrating for him. He generally gets great reviews for his music, praise for his voice and is well-liked in the business. His focus on his own community makes sense. It's his comfort world. Hope at least some of the songs on "Afters" are ones we can all connect with in some way. Early on after Idol, I said that following Adam would be a wild trip of unexpected twists and turns. Here we are.

I so hate that Adam's great work, Velvet, was not heard by a wider audience. But the pandemic and being released on an Indie label worked against him. I just hope he has not given up on putting out more universal music in the future. I support the LGBT community and of course Adam. But dance/disco music or anything too Pop is a no go for me. I also support the AA and Latin communities but can't stand rap and love soul and can't relate to Latin music. Country is not an option either. We like what we like and my favorites from Adam are Pop-rock, rock, Alt, soul and ballads. HA.
There have been gains but it is still difficult for LGBT artists, especially gay men. When the gay African American man won The Voice, I needed to step back from the comment sections. It reminded me of how, "madam," drag queen and homophobic insults were thrown at Adam. This Voice winner had a soulful R&B voice but too many referred to him as "she" or worse "it" and just angry that he won tho he was the best vocalist. He wore some flamboyant suits but they were not too OTT, just a flashy look. He didn't pull a LNX and show up wearing a mini-skirt or cheerleader outfit (I still don't get the appeal of grown men trying to dress like young girls). But just as annoying was John Legend. The contestant gave some powerful and soulful performances that landed him the win. And he sang a dance song to show he could also do up-tempo. And what did Legend say, dance should be your lane or something like that. Really Legend? You didn't win your 15 Grammy's with dance music so why try to put this stronger R&B and soulful vocalist in a box?.

So, Adam released a third teaser. „Gonna make you nut“ (equals “Gonna make you cum” I’ve just learned 😉).
Sadly I feel that this era won’t be for me. I hope that Adam will find a big enough audience for it and that he doesn’t shoot himself in the foot.
Meanwhile I’m looking forward to see him on The Voice Australia.😊
