5.25.24 Adam News and Info

My hope was that Wet Dream was a one off. But with every new teaser for this EP (?) it becomes clearer, what the direction of this project is. 

I don’t think it has to do with his younger friends and acquaintances. He has always had them or others, who had been younger in the past. Most of his friends are still the same. As he said, he’s happy, that he and his community can now freely express themselves and do what he couldn’t do at the start of his career, only even more bluntly now. 

I think Adam is a generational talent. I have bought every thing he has put out. Been to all his concert tours.Been to all QAL tours. Watched all his tv performances etc etc etc. And with few exceptions (two fux, and new eyes) I have really liked his recorded music output. Adam always brings it. But Adam also has a tendency in his live performances to cross the line from camp to crass. And it looks like he is now doing that with this EP. I know he is excited that the younger gay recording artists like Troye Sivan and Lil Nas X have been able to push boundaries and do things that he could not at a similar point in his career. But just because he CAN do more explicit stuff now, doesn't mean that in his 40s and at this point in his career he SHOULD do that sort of stuff. It just comes off kinda icky -- and I would say that whether he was a gay man, a straight man, a gay woman or a straight woman. I'm not a prude but I found Cardi B/Meg WAP gross; I hated Katy Perry's Bon Apetit. Adam's visuals for this EP are all just dripping in jizz...ick. JMO. This album isn't for me or my friends. I assume he believes his posse will love it. Maybe all that matters to him now.

Thank you for saying all this so frankly and clearly. I feel it, too, but just didn't know how to express it. Since Velvet, I have felt that Adam has been floundering a bit, trying to find a focus. He's had QAL, of course, but his direction for his own music has been vague at best, and now we hear of this EP that is apparently all about graphic gay sexuality. I think he has forgotten what his greatest assets have been since Idol: his genuinely good personality, humor, kindness, a natural unforced sexiness. Maybe he just doesn't know what other direction to take at this point. lurleene has explained in detail about the music business, promotion, radio play, etc. It happens to lots of artists, I'm sure. They hit the wall. Adam was on Idol in his late twenties, a bit old to grow with a teen audience. We long-time fans have loved him through thick and thin. I don't know if this EP is kind of a lark or an act of "what else can I do?"  His Idol reputation stays with him, but it's been hard for him to grow a bigger fanbase, esp. in the US. I'd love to see him get a live theater role somehow. He had that as a goal at one point. His side-jobs, like the voice animation, etc. are great and those he has worked with love him and respect his talent.  Maybe this EP will come and go just fine and a new era will follow that will get us excited. I'm an unapologetic optimist, I know. I've been a fan since Day ! and I will stay a fan. I'm betting on his talents and abilities to keep his career going and changing. He knows he has his original fans out there who still love him. And we know his community is important to him, too.  Hope his risks do less harm than good.  "Afters" doesn't sound like my cup of tea, either, but my curiousity will get me to listen. I've never been a prude, so we'll see.
