Some of the adverse reactions by the Queen fans may be due to the wording some news articles are using. Like The Guardian that is saying the Adam _replaces_ Freddie: www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/feb/21/queen-adam-lambert-freddie-mercury?CMP=twt_gu (The Guardian is a respected British newspaper.) We of course know that this is not what is intended by anyone. But if you are a fan and see this headline, it's understandable that the first reaction is rejection. And when you consider the reign of terror we pummel anyone with who claims their favourite comes even remotely close equalling our Adam, I guess some of the nasty is understandably to be expected. Can you imagine how it must feel to be M or JD or even KA when we descend!!?? Yikes....seems to be the nature of fanning + anonymity. At least we have that option of anonymity....it is hard to imagine how difficult it would be to have to face that...in our REAL world.....sigh...

Actually, I saw that HuffPo article earlier and got irritated with their phrasing of the headline at that point (which I think they have now changed...) It was something inflammatory like, "Can Adam Lambert replace Freddie" or words to that effect. In true HuffPo tradition, it was designed to stir up shit and clicks.
So I'm not surprised when it's phrased like that that the "Freddie Will Never Die" peeps are going to get their knickers in a knot.

www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/feb/21/queen-adam-lambert-freddie-mercury?CMP=twt_gu"Despite the tenor of May's correspondence, not everyone is excited about Queen's strategic partnership with 30-year-old Lambert. "Poor Freddie," tweeted one fan. Freaks & Geeks producer Josh Weinstein made an unflattering comparison to Queen's previous fill-in frontman: "Adam Lambert will be singing with Queen," he wrote. "Yes, that's how much Paul Rodgers lowered the bar."" I think Adam saw comments like this one and talked about haters. Haters gonna hate. WOW -- who is this Josh Weinstein guy?? What an under educated prick. Obviously does not respect May or Taylor either.

Anybody love Queen and want to gently and kindly bring some fresh life into a slightly traumatized Queen forum? (there is some positivity)... Perhaps we should send our most brilliant Adamtopia diplimat/fanthropologist/fanchologist over for middle east level conflict negotiation. Or maybe, we should choose 3 of our most potent Adam videos, tip toe in, place them quietly at their feet, and retreat without a word? Tread very lightly. They definitely feel that Freddie's grave is being trampled on and that the choice of a mere American Idol is a deep insult to the Queen name and of course, Freddie. These are people that want to be happy. They really do. They just need a little gentle help. Or maybe we should each go in and lay down a peace symbol with a kind and loving message explaining that we understand how they feel and hope they will be open to Adam as an entirely separate talent. Or better yet a silent march. If every one of us layed down 1 peace symbol and 1 love symbol (and perhaps one piece of proof that Adam is most certainly not a cliche "American Idol") and left without a word I think we could win them over to the fierce force. discuss.queenonline.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3599&start=450

The comments inside the article are nasty :Despite the tenor of May's correspondence, not everyone is excited about Queen's strategic partnership with 30-year-old Lambert. "Poor Freddie," tweeted one fan. Freaks & Geeks producer Josh Weinstein made an unflattering comparison to Queen's previous fill-in frontman: "Adam Lambert will be singing with Queen," he wrote. "Yes, that's how much Paul Rodgers lowered the bar." Yeah, I saw that. I just thought there had been a slew of hate comments afterwards. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Anytime in the past few months whenever there's been an article about Adam and Queen there have always been plenty of hateful comments.

Just IMO, but I say wait and let Adam's vocals do the talking. YMMV.

I have realized more and more how driven Adam is. I think many of us imagine reacting with hurt and devastation to hate, just wanting to go hide. But sports psychology has shown that for very driven people at the elite competitive level, there can be an energizing effect, a feeling of becoming even stronger and more powerful. Elite athletes often say that when they get a bad call or another player on the field plays unfairly, that their gut fills with anger and they are fueled with the desire for revenge. Anger and determination are very close in the psychological spectrum. Adam usually speaks with a light touch but I believe he is a person with a competitiveness so fierce that he burns to win. He is intent on showing every doubting person, everyone who treats him as if he is trespassing, that he is a man to be reckoned with. "Yeah my ass, wait'll you get a load of me"! I completely agree with these comments...very insightful, bb!
