This comment on reddit from someone who attended Cabaret tonight, in the thread Best Seats for Cabaret. www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/comments/1fnrdni/comment/lomvgek/snowfall2324 50m agoJust got back. I’m now convinced front row traditional mezz is the best place to see this show (other than the expensive tables in the very front). The actors look up rather than down at the audience, and the stage is pretty high off the floor of the orchestra/tables, even before it rises up with some of the numbers. Having seen it a second time, I realize now how truly brilliant this production is. I saw the 1998 Sam Mendes/Alan Cumming production at Studio 54 and thought it couldn’t be beat. But this version is so much more chilling and engrossing - it really brings out the meaning of this genius show/book/lyrics. Adam Lambert was terrific. I’m pleased to report Auli’i is singing her numbers a bit more and screaming a bit less, and her “Cabaret” was golden, really got you in the feels. You’re going to love it. I will probably try to go see it again, budget permitting. ETA I waited until this morning to buy my seat and paid $149 for mezz A, which is pretty good all things considered. Again ETA: the front row of the mezz has TONS of legroom!

www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/comments/1fnwo21/cabaret_adam_aulii_table_seating_review/Cabaret (Adam + Auli’i table seating review)We saw the 9/21 matinee; some pics I got on the way in, plus a bonus pic of meeting Marty Lauter/Marcia Marcia Marcia at Broadway flea! So let me start by saying I got table seating for a very reasonable price; I grabbed them before Adam and Auli’i were announced, and they were marked as handicap accessible seats (my mom has been very slow to recover from her knee replacement surgery back in May). Our seats were row B seats 214 and 215, if anyone’s curious. They’re right on the “aisle”, so actors are constantly rushing right past you (my mom was positively tickled that Adam brushed against her!). No, we didn’t get food/dinner (can’t afford that!). Let me start by praising this ensemble, this incredible incredible ensemble. You can tell they’re a tightly knit group. Sitting up close was a treasure to be able to see micro facial expressions and acting choices. I love how much they interacted with everyone in the audience and with each other. Bebe was amazing, as we knew she would be when she was announced for the role. But Steven Skybell, oh now he was a hidden gem. Their chemistry was very believable, which makes their ending all the more heartbreaking. Adam, oh Adam. Run, don’t walk to see Adam. His vocals were absolutely stunning (Tomorrow Belongs to Me was especially crisp, clear, and impressive). He’s very different from Eddy, but in all the best ways. You can tell he just relishes being back on stage, and he fits in well with the original cast members. Auli’i…well, I think she’ll get there by the end of her run. She’s definitely having fun (her big excited hug with Adam during the bows was sweet), and she can give genuine emotion at times (I did see genuine tears in her eyes at a couple moments), but I wish she’d be allowed to use her lovely voice more. Maybe This Time is the closest we get to it. I was worried about her from the start of Don’t Tell Mama, but she won me over at the end. But anyway, go see Adam for sure if you can. You won’t regret it, I promise. Loved loved loved the scenic design. Just when I thought the central elevator couldn’t surprise me more, it did! Audience was well-behaved. Some disappointed grumbling (like in a “oh man, he’s a Nazi, how disappointing” way) at the end of act one reveal. Otherwise, pretty respectful, at least from where I was sitting. BrightEyes7742Adam absolutely blew me away. His Emcee reminded me of Ushers character from Geppetto, a flashy but sinister showman

Some comments from reddit on a thread asking "So how are Auli'i and Adam?" for someone going to see the show later. www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/comments/1fn4u84/so_how_are_aulii_and_adam/?sort=newBrightEyes7742 15h ago Adam Lambert's Emcee is just magnetic, sexy, and dangerous. Not as physical as Eddies Emcee. But I'm glad they were so obviously different. dickjonas 1d ago Adam was incredible and Auli'i was very good but wasn't as compelling as Adam (to me). She plays the role very "rough" almost straight out of the gate, and the actual cabaret performances were what I enjoyed most from her, you could tell she was having a lot of fun even with the shouting and screaming she was doing. Granted it was their third performance I saw I think? And I had an amazing experience overall. It might've just been her still feeling things out for the quieter parts that I didn't find as great, personally. Adam plays the role quite large and increasingly sinister while still playful, he had some very funny gestures and moves. Very theatrical and especially powerful in Act 2. I don't have anything else to compare them to, it was my first ever Cabaret experience outside the movie. But as a huge fan of Adam I was so impressed with him, and the production as a whole. I hope you have a great time! DanD_lion 1d ago I saw it last Tuesday, but I had not seen the prior cast so I don’t have a standard of comparison. I loved Adam and found his emcee so compelling with a huge stage presence. His voice was beautiful as well and he just had such a powerful vibe when he was on stage. Auli’i felt like she was still feeling her way into the role, and she vacillated between hysteria and wide-eyed innocence which I know in some way fits with the role of Sally Bowles but also felt almost overacted at times. Her best moments were Sally’s more private, quieter moments like Maybe This Time. I felt she also was not using her voice to its best advantage as she was almost shouting during songs like Mein Herr and Don’t Tell Mama, which again could have been an acting choice as well. But I found her rather magnetic and exciting, as you never knew how she would play a given scene, and she was clearly relishing the role. Overall I found the production one of my favorite shows that I saw in the last year or so. It’s just so moving and compelling and there’s rarely a dull moment
