I dunno rihannsu....that theory wouldn't explain the significant drop off of spins in Canada. Adam might be fighting prejudice here in the States, but I don't think it's the reason the single is losing ground up there..... I think you overestimate the independence of Canadian radio. Aside from adding required Canadian content, most Canadian stations just copycat the same shite that is played in the US. At least, that's the impression I get.

This interview with Adam on Fuse is good. I love that she let him talk, and BTIKM is #13 on the countdown. The interviewer really seemed to like Adam and was interested in what he had to say. She seemed excited for the Trespassing album to be released. Very happy with this interview.

Perhaps, but didn't they start off with more adds and spins? Which indicates a degree of independence. The spins are decreasing....there has to be a reason for that.... Just babbling here - I know nothing.

Well I take it to mean that someone doesn't want the song played. People always assume that Adam broke any barriers in radio because WWFM and IIHY got played. I call bullshit. The fact that the played those songs just gives them cover and a way to skirt around things. From the tone of that post and his statement that he won't say anything else I wonder if there isn't MORE resistance to Adam within radio rather than less. Given the conservative nature of radio and the volatile political climate with respect to LGBT I am not surprised. Radio to my seems to be playing the game of "cover my ass" with respect to Adam. They give him just enough headway to forestall claims of homophobia but they can also find endless excuses to not really jump on the bandwagon. While we know about the complaints to ABC and the FCC about the AMA's we have no way of knowing what kind of feedback these radio stations are getting in response to his songs. Given the amount of homophobia rampant in public comment sections isn't it naive to think that the homophobes aren't complaining to radio stations too? Also, these "moral majority" campaigners have a long standing operating procedure of targeting advertisers with complaints. It seems very easy for many to dismiss the idea of homophobia simply because WWFM and IIHY got played, but both of these songs had to struggle to get where they did and we have no idea exactly how hard RCA had to push to get them where they did. My top 40 station added WWFM very late in the game and significantly dropped spins the minute the song peaked then IIHY was also added VERY late and the second it lost it's bullet it was totally GONE from the playlist. WWFM was played very lightly compared to other recurrents from the same era. Growing up in Louisiana taught me very well how subtle prejudice can be. I saw how many so called reasonable explanations can be created to cover racism. Blatant homophobia is much easier to battle than the subtle and pervasive institutional prejudice that exists throughout our society. I will say again I think women really need to wake up and realize that we haven't gotten near as far along as we may think when it comes to equality. Women will not be truly equal as long as femininity is used as an insult with respect to gay men. Their battle is ours too. Your post just summed up everything I've been feeling. I grew up in Louisiana and live in Texas now (no difference in the culture). I'm surrounded by people that say they have nothing against gay people but "don't want it shoved in their face"- so basically act straight, dress straight and don't say anything about your personal life around me. Against gay marriage and was against repeal of DADT. And it's not just the homphobia, it's veiled racism against our President. I wonder where our country is going because I heard tonight that the Supreme Court is going to hear a case against Affirmative Action and that some of the justices are going to try to overturn that, which will cause all kinds of hell if that happens. Add to that the nominees for the Republican party for President. It astounds me that these conservative decision-makers have no problem with putting Chris Brown on their playlists and are salivating for the collab with Rihanna, even though this is getting a lot of negative press as well. Was even the subject of half of Dr. Drew's show tonight.

I just requested BTIK on Virgin Calgary via twitter. The DJ was very nice and replied to me. Crossing fingers they play it tonight. ITA. Calgary stations play the same crap songs over and over again plus the mandatory 20-25% Canadian music.

It sounds like RCA Ed is frustrated and really has no answers. But, basically, all stations have the song. And they all could play it if they wanted to, that's the gist of it.
I don't know what exactly is going on with radio, but I do know that Kelly is the only Idol getting any love. At all. I don't think the problem is homophobia, I think it is "Idol fatigue." Either radio is finding singers off these reality shows (and their fanbases) to be SO uncool, or they are feeling "forced" to play these singles and are actively fighting back.
