(Side note: After all, it DOES feel rather futile right now. I and thousands of others have been voting and requesting their heads off and gotten nowhere. I WOULD actually like to know whether there is a point to it, or whether we are just being used ... and if so for what purpose? So far the only argument I've seen in support of requesting and voting is childlike faith, along the lines of "he's knows if you've been bad or good/So be good for goodness sake." If there is more to it I'd love to know.) OK, I'll try to explain to the best of my understanding why I don't believe radio requesting is futile or based on faith. Sorry this is long, but I do hope people read it.(but first a personal thank you to wingsofbutterflies and slapdash larue and everyone else who is like, f*ck it, imma do what little I can and take five minutes out of my very busy day to support Adam's current single, the stations currently playing it, and the stations that might just be on the verge.) ----------------------- 1) This is the current single, we don't know when we will get a second single. That's a fact. all the speculation about a second single is only that, speculation. We have to work with what we have right now, and I personally don't want to sit there waiting for a bus that nobody knows when is coming. I'm going to walk in the direction of my destination, more radio play for Adam. ----------------------- 2) One thing I find helpful is to adjust my own lens. If the big picture is getting me down, I don't worry about it, I celebrate small victories, and work extra hard on my own little piece of geography and requesting there (as well as in larger stations) So some small victories: just this morning during business hours so far: new spinners:
WWWM Star 105.5 Toledo, OH this is a monitored HAC owned by Cumulus! It apparently spun twice today.
WRQX Mix 107.3 Washington, DC HAC, is this one of toby k's stations? are pigs flying?----------------------- 3) If my little patch of geography is frustrating me, I look at the larger world, at the fact that BTIKM is #15 on the Billboad Hot 100 in Japan, for example, and rocking South Africa, and cheer that while keeping on. ----------------------- 4) Even a few more spins can move Adam up the HAC chart and make his benchmark higher before the song is retired. You know how many spins currently separate BTIKM from the #31 song above it on the HAC chart? 2 spins. It's pretty obvious that individual requests could get AT LEAST that many. ----------------------- 5) Even a few more spins during heavy listening hours might bring in a new buyer or bert. If a station hasn't spun the song, local requests show interest and demand for both the song and the artist. They may be planning to play BTIKM a little later, or it may factor in when the next single comes along. ----------------------- 6) For the stations like Sirius and the San Francisco spinners that have been doing a mighty job of spinning the song, let's know them that it's appreciated, that they made the right call, with thanks and continuous requests. They aren't chopped liver. ----------------------- 7) I agree with using several methods to contact the stations, but I have had my local requests off of mediabase forms played (I put in my city and zip, and fudged my age a little ;D). I request several songs aside from BTIKM too, but usually not songs that are in competition with him right now. I pick from Past Favorites for the other songs. So either my local station suddenly rediscovered the joys of 'Golddigger' and 'Kryptonite' or they are paying attention to my form :D ----------------------- So off my soapbox, and hey, if any of that makes sense to anyone, you might want to do your local requests : atop.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=strategy&action=display&thread=650I am quoting this because it is such an important matter. BTIKM is Adam's single and it is very important to request it. It matters more than ever now that we request BTIKM from local stations and from national/online/satellite stations that will play the song. If you think there are thousands of other fans requesting BTIKM from your station -- do the math. There are only a few dedicated fans requesting BTIKM from most stations -- your request matters. One correction -- BTIKM is #29 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 -- www.billboard.com/charts/japan-hot-100?begin=11&order=position#/charts/japan-hot-100?begin=21&order=positionPeaked at #23 -- just cause someone tweets chart info does not make it so. There are similar bogus reports from other international markets.

Ummm... guise.... scared witless right now.... but last night I officially booked my VIP pass to Sonisphere.Am totally, completely terrified by the hugeness of it all... but FLAiLING nonetheless... Yesterday I had THE hugest day EVAH - seriously!!!!! Some of you know about my RL problems that my neighbours and I are having with a landslip that has been affecting our land and houses. The damage has been accelerating in recent months and has been getting quite scary (huge cracks internally, my floors are now uneven, houses and concrete driveways moving etc). We have all been on hold because the Earthquake Commission didn't pay us out enough to get the land fixed properly. Trust me - the fix needed is major. The land portion fix alone will cost around $1.5 million. Getting our six houses fixed is a seperate (and also expensive) issue. We asked for help from our city council and the to'ing and fro'ing has been going on for the last 9 months. Yesterday Auckland Transport & the Highest Powers That Be who run this city, have just told us officially that they will contribute up to $500,000 (in addition to our EQC money) to fix our land. This is huge!!!! You cannot conceive and have no idea how ~unusual this offer is from council (they normally ignore claims like ours and run away at a 1,000 miles per hour). This means we will get our land fixed properly - and not some half assed fix option that we were having to pursue recently. This also means that our properties will be able to be put on the market at proper market value levels again. This drama has been going on for two and a half years now and yesterday, we finally knew that we had the funds to make our homes safe again. This is INCREDIBLE news for us... so based on that (and a (prelim) clear mammogram \o/) I personally just went FUCK IT, threw caution to the wind and booked the ticket to Sonisphere as a celebration. Early days for me tho guys.... BUT mah ticket be booked right now! I can't believe I'mma going meet all you amazeballs Atop'ers , see Adam live again, plus see MF Queen as well - oh and travel half way around the world ~again to do it. THREE amazing things in a row - I'se a happy little bunny right now. Wow that is HHUUUUUUGE!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! On both counts!!

jo, I will agree with you. And I know it's unpopular. But I think radio is really not interested in catering to Idol Fans (Glamberts, Cook fans, David A. fans, etc.) I think they assume "Glamberts" are a bunch of crazy middle age women who really aren't their demographic to begin with. And I think they probably flip-flop between being annoyed and laughing their heads off. There is something to be said for letting things happen (or not happen, I guess) organically. I request the song, please don't anyone think I am trying to discourage this. But, I really think fans have to be so careful. It's a fine line. I am a Cook fan, and I followed him for a while (well, until he kind of lost me, and his fans ticked me off) but at one point his fans annoyed a DJ on a Chicago station so much that they stopped playing his song for about 3 days. I am NOT saying anyone here is doing this. Just that fan behavior like that has hurt all the people off Idol. eta---But rabbit, fans of other artists can get away with things that Idol fans can't. Idol fans have a horrible reputation in radio (I do know this to be a fact from talking to a Chicago DJ that I went to school with) and it isn't necessarily fair. But that is how it is. Fans just need to be a little careful. I just wanted to quote this whole thing because I really agree with it.

I am out of my fucking mind! I just bought a VIP ticket! I've been telling myself that it's too much to spend since we heard the news, but it finally came down to which would I regret most - going or not going? And I'd regret it the rest of my life if I didn't go. I'm really hoping with the VIP tickets there won't be a ton of walking/standing.
Just Karen (thank you!) suggested that I look into the accessible arrangements, but then I wouldn't be in VIP with everyone else. So, I'm going!!!!!!
And I got the call from the credit card company checking for fraud before I could finish typing this!

Catz--so happy for everything!!!!!! It's been a long haul. BTIKM video is at 1,835,899 views already! Mmm... I think that's the audio, not the video. The video is past 3 million already - 3 185 357 just a minute ago.

Catz, That is wonderful news. This is a bit OT but yesterday I watched a documentary called "The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls" about a yodeling country singing-and-comedy lesbian sibling duo from New Zealand. I am sure you have probably seen them. I thought it was great and I could see parallels in their insights and Adam's as outsiders and also just doing what they want to do. One interesting point they made is that if you have something controversial to say, people are much more willing to listen to a song, rather than a speech. Go Adam!!!

Apart from the numbers and calculations, all we have here is opinion and the expression of feelings. Feelings are not right or wrong. Some people feel more strongly than others in general and some people feel more strongly than others about specific topics. This is not right or wrong. They are only feelings nothing less and nothing more. If they bring anxiety, three simple breaths and thoughts about hot fudge brownies just out of the oven and it's a whole new space. No one's feelings are going to cause terrible things to happen. No one is wrong for feeling what they feel. Everyone has a right to what they feel. I have had to remind myself of this on many an occasion here It is funny, and I say this with all due respect, to suggest someone should be careful about projecting their feelings onto Adam. The truth is that everyone here projects their feelings and opinions onto Adam, that is part of the pop star phenomenon. Hopefully everyone can recognize this in themselves and thus not judge someone else for doing it. Because we are all in the opinion, feelings, and projection boat no matter how "logical" a person one thinks one is. Well, that is except for me, my opinions are all right. LOVED this post skylar!! Feelings exist even when people say they are not there, or misunderstand, mislabel them, mis-characterize them, or bludgeon them into silence with words, words, words. Still that seems to be what our culture teaches.
