Brian May's statement, "We hope to reach the greatness of Freddie’s last gig there," was an extremely unwise thing to say, from a psychology standpoint. It is a classic set up. It makes me wonder if they are the ones who set fans up to reject their new singers and maybe they need to get out of their own way. This is not about Adam helping them attain the greatness of Freddie's last gig and to say that is the goal is an expectation trap. Brian May read some psychology books p l e a s e. Telling people that you are trying to attain the greatness of someone's last gig in life is just c.r.a.z.y. That is a trap for any singer. IMHO Brian May needs to get his head straight about his and Queen's goals. Maybe he has not been able to move beyond Freddie and if he can't, how can anyone else. He needs some of Adam's psychological smarts. Sorry, but I don't see anything wrong with what Brian said. If he said that the performance would "definitely" equal (or surpass) their last concert with Freddie, then I would be worried. But Brian said he "hoped" that they could do as well, and even went on to say that it would be a big challenge: “Adam Lambert is a phenomenal singer and the sound is amazing at Sonisphere. We hope to reach the greatness of Freddie’s last gig there. It’s a challenge but then again that’s life.”Also, don't forget Brian is promoting a gig for Queen. What should Brian have said ... something like "we know it will never equal what we did with Freddie, but what the hell we're gonna do it anyway. So, come on out and pay to see a less-than-memorable show."? LOL. And as far as mentioning Freddie at all, I don't think Brian and Roger have a choice. A lot of Queen fans are aware of the connection to Knebworth and that 1986 concert, so the questions were bound to come up. I don't think dodging the issue is an option. So, under the circumstances his comments make sense IMHO. Thanks for your response! : ) Of course they have to bring up Freddie! That goes without saying : ) I think it would have been better to say something on the order of... "The greatness of Freddie's last gig at Knebworth will never be forgotten and most certainly never by us. We could only return to Knebworth with someone we felt was the right person. Adam Lambert is an extremely talented singer, someone that Freddie would have loved and approve of (as they have said perfectly on other occasions) We are very excited about the possibilities presented by this collaboration. The Knebworth concert with Freddie was amazing, one of a kind, never to be forgotten. We feel this concert will be special on two levels; on one level, of course, as a tribute and on another level, as a new interpretation of our music with a new artist collaborator." or something like that... Everything Brian May has said other than that one sentence has been fantastic. I was surprised by that one sentence because Brian is so smart, articulate, and careful about what he says. So, it is not that I am worried. It is quite possible that he was misquoted anyway. So, it is not that I am stressed out.

Are we still trying to create a push to donate on the 29th? Is there a plan? Peeps on twitter to focus on which days/which hashtag/which strategies? Non-twitter folks to sign up to post info on specific other boards that they visit? Etc. My experience trying to push donations for Valentine's Day left me feeling that a more organized effort with more people involved would be helpful. And, obviously, lots of repetition of the message is needed. Thanks in advance if you can clue me into what has been planned. peace&love I don't know how concrete the plan is, but I think there should definitely be a push on the 29th. I think everyone should try to donate at least $5, and spread the word via whatever social networking sites you're involved with. I really hope we can get Adam to send out a tweet. I only have 45 followers on Twitter, so obviously I don't speak with a very loud voice there, but if just 10,000 of Adam's 1.355 million followers would donate $5, we'd surpass the goal. So if everyone who is on Twitter could just drop Adam a quick, polite tweet letting him know about the Leap Day effort, maybe he'll see what we're doing and join in. I'd like to come up with a hashtag in an attempt to get a trending topic. Maybe something like #5DollarsforCleanWater or #AdamCleanWater or #LeapDayCleanWater? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Okay guys, Dr. Brian May is an astrophysicist and a musician. Since when are most guys eloquent? He's excited, and words don't always come out right. Cut him a break.
On the 29th, I plan to make a big donation to the Water Charity in memory of my mother. She is currently at "end of life," and close to the end.
I have been holding back about going to Sonisphere. I want to go, I need to go. I will kick myself in the arse for not going. But I also need to be practical. I may just let it all go, and just do it. Mom would have approved !!!!!!!!!!

Just back from a two-day computer-less trip, and I drove 600 miles and wore out my EMAs track completely. It was just a staccato hiccup the last thirty minutes.
No, I'm not obsessive. Not at all.
Totally anecdotal...I walked into the Home Depot in Portland Maine two days ago, and I realized I was hearing Adam singing. So I got happy and was sort of mindlessly singing along while concentrating on the tile aisle, and sort of also absent-mindedly thinking, hey if they're playing the single here things can't be so bad...
And then I realized it was WWFM. Made me wonder...if someone as Adam-obsessed as I am got the songs confused...is it possible that nonfans are confusing the songs, as well? Especially if stations are still playing WWFM?
I realize not everyone is as addlepated as I am, but it did make me wonder...
ETA: Smokeyvera, so sorry to hear about your mom.

After Bohemian Rhapsody this is my favorite Queen song.
I love everything about it. Lyrics, melody, voices on the chorus, Freddie's voice and Brian's solo's are killers.
I would love to hear Adam sing "And now you can kiss my ass good bye" I can almost hear him sing it.

Except that IMO that sounds as if it was written by his PR person. I prefer his own words, imperfect as they may be. I know we're just picking nits for fun

I'm fully aware that he is brilliant and I LOOOVE the dude almost as much as I love Adam. And that is a lot. Seriously

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but since it looks like Adam is doing an interview on this show does this mean that we are guaranteed a spin for BTIKM? Would be nice to get a spin for once without having to tweet, text or whack something! Well, yes, but..... Fans should tweet a lot and call to prove that we are happy that he is there and that we are listening to this program.

I appreciated what you wrote, skylar. It wasn't a criticism of Brian, just noting that there is a psychology behind setting people's expectations. I remember a political debate years back where, prior to the debate, one candidate bragged that he was the world's greatest debater and was going to mop the floor with his opponent. The other candidate said aw shucks, I just hope to do well.
Guess which one was perceived to have "won"? The aw shucks guy could hardly help but win, because all he had to do was hold his own and he exceeded expectations.
Adam did a great job of setting expectations in his interview. I wonder if there are cultural differences here too. Maybe Americans tend to try to come off as more humble, just plain folks, while British people have a tougher edge and that's what's expected. Just a thought.
