OT apparently but can someone tell me if there's any point in voting at VH1 for BTIKM - I thought I read here recently that the video was being pulled (which truly broke my heart) but since VH1 still allowed me to vote for it, I have been. But would be grateful if someone could let me know if there's any chance it will be in Top 20. Please and thank you. Also am on board for the Leap Day push for Charity Water though I'm increasingly wondering why fandom isn't supporting Adam in this. It is one of the few shows of support we actually control but only about a 1,000 people out of Adam's fandom have donated (taking into account a number of people have donated more than once.) I know I'm preaching to the choir here at Atop; I'm just out of ideas for motivating greater fandom. I hesitate to do math but I think at this point there would need to be well over a $1,000 day in donations to meet the goal by the time it closes. Ah well I guess. Mika, glad you are delurking. That's a rumor. It is still on the voting list. Nobody knows one way or the other. I wouldn't stop voting!!!! We will know more tomorrow. About Charity Water, I don't understand either. Maybe there are so many other distractions that people are not paying attention. It seems like some of the other boards aren't doing much either. I'm really surprised about the low total this year! It's like a lot of people are ignoring it. And for some people, times are difficult. I think it's confusing. I was under the impression that Adam had asked people to "donate their birthdays," meaning this year to ask would-be gifters to donate to Charity Water on the giftee's birthday. So I was unaware that there was this other deadline attached...where did it come from?

It WAS a bit confusing but basically Adam encouraged people to donate their birthdays to Charity Water but also donated his own. For his own birthday, the goal was set at 100K and that campaign (Adam's) closes in 36 days. mycharitywater.org/p/campaign?campaign_id=22963

www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/entertainment/its_the_end_of_the_week_as_we_know_it_part_38.htmlIt's The End Of The Week As We Know It: Part 38date: 02/24/2012 So let’s take a look at their new choice of lead singer and appreciate some Queen. Queen In The News Of The WorldBy now, you’re probably aware that the "American Idol"-famed singer, Adam Lambert, has been selected to sing for Queen for their headlining slot at this year’s Sonisphere Festival in the UK. News of this selection has caused a bit of a stir in the rock community and criticism mainly debates whether or not Lambert is the right choice for Queen and "replacement" for the deceased rock icon, Freddie Mercury. Of course he’s not. Nobody can flat out replace him. But that isn’t the intent. Given that everyone is certainly entitled to have favorable, unfavorable or irrationally harsh opinions, I’d like to take a collective look at some of the salient points the anti-Lambert critics have made. Via the comment sections of the Queen/Lambert articles on UG, it seems that the main arguments against this collaboration went along the lines of the following: Lambert sings with too much vibrato and it’s annoying Queen is just doing the performance for money This whole things is pointless because nobody can replace Freddie Mercury YouTube sensation, Marc Martel would have been better suited for the job The band should change their name because it’s not really Queen performing These are all good points with merit, but for a moment, I’ll interject my own opinions because I have the blog microphone right now. Yes, Lambert does sing with a lot of vibrato; Queen has made an astronomical amount of money over the years, so it’s doubtful that they are doing this whole thing just to make some extra cash; yeah, nobody can replace Freddie Mercury, but nobody is trying to; Marc Martel sounds and looks eerily like Freddie, but one wonders if he’s capable of captivating and commanding an audience as big as the one that’ll be at Sonisphere; Queen doesn’t abuse the whole keeping-the-band-name-even-though-there-aren’t-many-original-members-left thing – they toured under the name Queen + Paul Rogers in the past, noting the distinction. ...more LOOOVEEEEEE.. THIS ARTICLE... The Role of FreddieBut to defend the choice of Adam Lambert, he’s already performed with Queen on American Idol and at the MTV Europe Awards. According to Brian May, Lambert will be a “great interpreter” of Freddie’s vocals. Basically, Queen already has a relationship with the guy and they liked him enough to book a festival appearance.
The talented Marc Martel sure looks and sounds like Freddie Mercury, but I’m not sure if he has the experience of performing to such large audiences. And he’s part of a Christian band called downhere. And we all know how boring Christian rock is...
More to Queen than just FreddieAnd if you didn’t already think that Brian May could be bada-s enough (on top of being an astrophysicist), he’s most likely the only electric guitar player that has currency minted with his face on it! You may know that May uses a British six*&@^# coin as a guitar pick because it plays a part in getting his signature tone. However, six*&@^#s were discontinued in 1970. In order to keep using the six*&@^#, the Royal British Mint made May his own custom six*&@^#s with his likeness printed on it. Brian May is money.

I asked a few days ago if anyone heard anything about Adam and Queen on classic rock radio stations. Radio experts in the know can correct me if I'm wrong, but the last I heard Q104.3 NYC is the Arbitron #1 classic rock station in the country. Hubby told me tonight that Jim Kerr (morning DJ) talked about Adam fronting for Queen. Did not mention Idol. Did mention that Brian and Roger said that Freddie would approve. Did mention that the EMA's showed how well Adam will do. All paraphrasing, but I asked hubby the questions that we don't necessarily like the answers to and not one of them was mentioned. ETA: DJ said that it was a one off show, but that insider rumors are hinting that there would be US dates for some more one off's. WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN. Queen & Adam concert in the US??? where?? New York?? Yankees Stadium with 50K Capacity compare to Madison Square with 20K?? Now.. this one, I'm definitely going ... ;D ;D ;D

So I was unaware that there was this other deadline attached...where did it come from? 1.On VH1 -- it is important to vote in the Countdown vote. That is different than the songs that are on the VH1 playlist and BTIKM is not on their playlist. www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=16025No rumors involved -- just a fact. BTIKM is not on the Feb 18th Top 20 countdown because it did not get the votes. www.vh1.com/shows/series/top_20_countdown/index.jhtmlIT IS ON THE BALLOT SO VOTE!! www.vh1.com/shows/series/top_20_countdown/vote.jhtml2. JMO on this year's Charity: Water campaign -- Adam asked people to donate their birthdays and to give. It was a compound request without a clear, easy-to-communicate goal. The campaign is Charity: Water's new celebrity campaign and I think it is confusing fans. I gave my birthday and asked people to contribute to it. But it is in October. I think the leapday giviing day idea is a really good idea. Keep it simple.

Thanks for feedback Stardust - I'll stay the course in VH1 voting until we know more. (It's such a wonderful video - even non fans like it.)
Murly - Agree a tweet from Adam would be ideal. Maybe he feels awkward requesting again as the donations were technically in lieu of b'day gifts? But maybe he'd retweet something calling for CW Leap Day donations if the tweet didn't mention him specifically but included the link to his campaign page? Are we voting for radio play together again tonight? Maybe a group effort to tweet Adam during that time? Of course, he actually does things Friday night so maybe a bad time. IDK. Sorry to be full of question marks :-/

LOL at all these rock blogs n shit srsly "debating" this MOST CONTROVERSIAL AND EARTH SHATTERING NEWS!!! LOLOLOL They need to chill.
IT'S ONE CONCERT. I mean there could be more but at this point Adam is not joining the band, he is just stepping in as a guest vocal. Period. What is there really to debate? They need a voice, he provides it. Him stepping in doesn't alter the history of the band, doesn't make their songs and legacy better or worse. It's just going to be a moment in time for the band to put on a show and for ppl to enjoy their music live. That's about it. Its not something that truly needs all this deep discussion and hand wringing.
And excuse me...he sings with too much vibratto? And Freddie wasn't operatic? HELLOOOOOOOO. BUELLER!!! Also have to lol at the "without Freddie it's pointless" right before wondering whether or not Mark Martel--who they say sounds eerily like Freddie--is a better choice. Ummm, so it's pointless without Freddie UNLESS you have the cheapo knock off version of Freddie? LOL Wouldn't that be worse?
Srsly. These intense rock/metal fans are...intense. And not in a good way. As someone once said....IT AIN'T THAT DEEP.
But overall that post wasn't that bad....still it's a hell of a lot of tongue wagging for something that may never happen again--a full out concert I mean.
Watch--they will slay the perf and we'll have people going OH THEY SHOULD DO THAT AGAIN! but they won't and then they'll be sadz. Hee

That's even better... they can come and play in NY Yankee's Stadium and then come to FL to play in Tropicana Field Ray's stadium 38K.. or come to Gainsville stadium with 88K Capacity.. ;D ;D ;D
