Maybe Cassie or one of the other peeps with much more singing knowledge than me can help me out? The thing I find so strange about the vibrato complaint with regard to Adam is that in stanning him since Idol and hearing pretty much every ridic complaint under the sun about him, I don't recall this particular one ever being brought up until after the EMA's. And the first time I remember seeing it was on MJ's from one of the usual suspects, and then it spread like wildfire, even to here. I'm not saying people are wrong and he's not using vibrato, but why hasn't this been an issue before? Did Freddie not use a vibrato at all and with that yardstick it's more apparent? Or did I just miss previous criticism of this in particular performances? I'm curious if anyone that lurked over at the DDD forums remembers Adam's vibrato being a point of contention in the technical skills discussion, it seems like before the overenthusiastic fan invasion they examined Adam's skills microsopically. I just caught up on DDD and some people were ragging on the vibrato a bit after the EMA. Like it's just not a valid part of rock singing.

Mika, glad you are delurking. That's a rumor. It is still on the voting list. Nobody knows one way or the other. I wouldn't stop voting!!!! We will know more tomorrow. About Charity Water, I don't understand either. Maybe there are so many other distractions that people are not paying attention. It seems like some of the other boards aren't doing much either. I'm really surprised about the low total this year! It's like a lot of people are ignoring it. And for some people, times are difficult. I think it's confusing. I was under the impression that Adam had asked people to "donate their birthdays," meaning this year to ask would-be gifters to donate to Charity Water on the giftee's birthday. So I was unaware that there was this other deadline attached...where did it come from? I agree with you on this, it is confusing this year. I have heard in interviews etc. that Adam this year asked his fans to give up their birthdays in hopes it would add up to more monies than last year. Maybe some fans are doing that instead of donating now. Just my thought. I donated and will donate again on the 29th, it does look like some big contribution is going to have to jump in to make the $100k goal though. But...... if Adam is looking at a year long campaign then we have until next January for a total amount. Yup, confusing

The people posting that Adam has too much vibrato blah blah blah .... have no idea what they are talking about. I would love Cassie's take on this but Freddy was famous for incorporating vibrato into rock music. This is from a Freddie and QUEEN expert -- "Freddie had a trained voice vibrato technique. He used it mostly for prolonged notes, but many times he sung just straight, where he thought vibrato wouldn't work." Link: www.queensongs.info/the-book/queen-the-four-of-them-as-musicians/freddie-mercury.htmlHere is a video example of Freddie live from 1979 ---- Adam does not sound like Freddie, he does not sing like Freddie, but he has the same theatrical style and power when he sing. They are my two favorite rock frontmen. But they are quite different -- but both are magnificent.

You cleared up the confusion :D By the way, did you see that Kanadie is back?? Happy Day!

I think that the two part goal, and getting 750 or so fans to donate their birthday to CW on their own timelines is great. CW will keep in touch with these pledged campaigns through email no doubt.
Pushes along the way for Adam's own birthday goal are good, but I have faith that closer to the deadline fandom will motivate to meet it.
I think a lot of people are just very focused on promo and airplay at the moment.

Oh, the vibrato meme...it may have had its origins from one of the relentless trolls on TWOP who spend their lives bashing Adam (seriously, it's the only place they post, they get banned, they sign up with new name, rinse, repeat ad nauseum). I do vividly remember one of them snarking about the "goat-like vibrato" after Adam's slayage of the EMAs. I particularly remember it because IIRC I actually snorted out loud.
Once they've found a straw to grasp, they do like to spread it around.
Like they wouldn't give an appendage to have their woobie of choice front with one of the most famous bands of all time.
/shrug.

Over $300,000 was raised last year, and this year a struggle to reach $50,000, much less $100,000. I wonder if a lot of doners were upset because of the delay in receiving their autographed pics last time, so they are passing on it this year. I mean, I hate to think that is the case, but I can't think any other reason that the donations are so slow this year, except maybe the birthday confusion. I wish he had just plain asked for his birthday donations again. :-/

LOL at all these rock blogs n shit srsly "debating" this MOST CONTROVERSIAL AND EARTH SHATTERING NEWS!!! LOLOLOL They need to chill. IT'S ONE CONCERT. I mean there could be more but at this point Adam is not joining the band, he is just stepping in as a guest vocal. Period. What is there really to debate? They need a voice, he provides it. Him stepping in doesn't alter the history of the band, doesn't make their songs and legacy better or worse. It's just going to be a moment in time for the band to put on a show and for ppl to enjoy their music live. That's about it. Its not something that truly needs all this deep discussion and hand wringing. And excuse me...he sings with too much vibratto? And Freddie wasn't operatic? HELLOOOOOOOO. BUELLER!!! Also have to lol at the "without Freddie it's pointless" right before wondering whether or not Mark Martel--who they say sounds eerily like Freddie--is a better choice. Ummm, so it's pointless without Freddie UNLESS you have the cheapo knock off version of Freddie? LOL Wouldn't that be worse? Srsly. These intense rock/metal fans are...intense. And not in a good way. As someone once said....IT AIN'T THAT DEEP. But overall that post wasn't that bad....still it's a hell of a lot of tongue wagging for something that may never happen again--a full out concert I mean. Watch--they will slay the perf and we'll have people going OH THEY SHOULD DO THAT AGAIN! but they won't and then they'll be sadz. Hee You're talking to Glamberts here, chunkey- this is the bunch that can debate one haircut for weeks, count facial hairs, learn every link on every chain wound 'round our boo's neck, and wax rhapsodic about the differences between various pairs of medges. No detail is too miniscule to overwank- the finer the point the more examination it requires. They have to go through the stages of acceptance and that requires time and extended exhalations containing words that don't always make the most sense. This is their way of processing much as it took us MONTHS to process the one performance of FYE that took place on November 22 of '09. This too shall pass. Adam will be spectacular, Queen will rock them, most of the world will think it was the best. show. ever., and a few will say it stunk up the whole country. And then we will carry on squeeing , Adam will have a shit ton of new fans, his album will smash, and the sad little boy men will still be sitting in front of their computers lamenting life and how things ain't what they used to be. Whattaya gonna do?

Can someone explain 'vibrato' to me again? And why do some think you shouldn't sing with it? Thanks.
