I think that Adam is an excellent dancer on par with most global pop stars -- and well above the average Idol contestant, I still do not understand why he said that -- but maybe he could not think of anything else? Cause in my "completely unbiased opinion" he was pretty much perfect on Idol. I agree. I wondered whether it had to do with the fact that it was the dynamics of the whole group that made it akward for him? Even almost 3 years later this is just silly looking. Poor Adam -- there is no way for this group to look good. And I think this was the 5 best dancers of AI8. Can you imagine if they used all of them?!?!?

Like everyone I totally enjoyed the Saturday Night Online Chat ... I felt like he was talking directly to me !! ... just a random chat about loads of things .. he has an riveting presence on camera Q3 commented on how he felt his dancing on Idol was awkward, especially the Paula Disco - I thought he was great !! But it is part of the cheesiness of Idol that I love! ;D

I am quite sure that he sees himself as awkward in comparison to the AMAZING people he hangs out with on a regular basis. Just as he sees himself as pretty vanilla and even kind of boring compared to the amazing exotic people he associates with. It is a matter of perspective and his view is filled with extraordinary talent surrounding him on all sides while we see mostly HIM.

No Angel
The analogy of Adam as Icarus has been attributed to Eber, who purportedly posted on an Idol forum after the AMAs that Adam's "willingness to leap toward the sun is what thrills us about him," and this is true. Only yesterday in the Saturday Night Online chat Adam told us that if he were a mythical creature he'd like to be a dragon and to have the power to fly. I think Adam knows himself better than his father knows him in this case. The fire is in Adam's belly, not in the star towards which he reaches. He flies, not with borrowed wings, but under his own power, fueled by his own passion. If he misses the mark he blames no one but himself and wears his singed wings as a badge of honor.
Felt you soar to touch his experience NoAngel, and you took me there. Thank you!

ETA: Anybody here ever read Hermann Hesse 's 'Narcissus and Goldmund"? Somehow Brian and Adam totally remind me of that relationship.....so many parallels. Thank you for the reminder! I loved this book, but didn't re-read it for quite some time. Now I just have to dig it out in my library and look up all these parallels. Im curious to hear what the parallels are...?
