Or the fact that RCA is insisting this be the next single and Adam has never not visibly supported his label and their choices. He is a company man through and through. And from what we have seen in his interviews about Trespassing songs and lyrics, is that Adam has always been good at portraying that everything is copacetic! But "Underneath" who knows? Stardust, before I forget again, I just want to mention how much I love the Peacock feather you used as a top border for the Numbers page!

rihannsu IA. Also as far as we know the only reviewer who has heard and commented on the NCOE's bruno track is the deliciously snarky Popjustice, and here's what they said:
"There was a song Adam played us last year called 'Never Close Our Eyes' or something which had a big line that went something like "never close my eyes, MY EYEESSSSSS". It's quite raveular. That should probably be a single at some point, mind you it doesn't have quite as much of Adam's identity in it as some of the other songs on the album. This said, identity's not much use when you're not selling any albums because you picked the wrong singles, is it?"
and later:
"This should be where the ballad comes in. FUCK THE BALLAD. Let's go straight back in with that ravey 'Never Close Our Eyes' one. That's a hit single however you look at it, so if people haven't been very into the whole Queen-esque Pharrell business this will help sell some albums. We seem to recall Adam saying that Bruno Mars had something to do with this one but he might have been talking about something else."
They also obviously heard an early version, so grain of salt given that Adam went back to the studio to work on it and got a new producer.

Original producer on NCOE was Ollie. But Ollie and Dr Luke work together a lot. So maybe it will be a producing collab. I am hoping for that!

rabbitrabbit- Radio spins are not great in Germany. I think last week his he was #50 on the overall radio chart, #32 youth and #101 on mainstream. On iTunes he is #98 pop right now. But the CD for the single is yet to be released (3/16), it is title-track of a movie here and the mv has been released last Monday and premiered just yesterday on TV. We have to wait .

The songs that Adam co wrote on FYE would have never been hits on Pop radio like WWFM was. It may take him a while to get cred as a songwriter. Compared to many other artists, he is a newbie at songwriting. (Bringing my recent post from other thread, forgot about there being a new thread every week.) Kelly Clarkson's first three singles from this era are not co writes. No one cares that Stronger isn't a song that she doesn't have co writing credits on. It is #1 in several countries and in the US and it is helping her sell 80-100K a month of albums in the middle of the winter. I would rather have something like that than a co write that might struggle on the charts. This really isn't the time to take chances. If they put out another single that does the same as this first one, we could see the album pushed back for a few months. I want them to put out a single that will get significant Pop play, the rest of the details about the song don't matter to me! It doesn't matter who writes the song or who sings/raps on part of it or what the song is about, it just NEEDS to be a Pop hit! understand your point... however, it is my impression that the LADIES are not expected to be song writers... like I never hear the argument re "she did not write ..." about any of the current divas... I actually have no idea which one of them does write (aside from gaga, Adele, TS and Pink)... I do hear this argument from EVERY friend of my kids and other young people around me re Adam - and I am sick of it! (I personally think that being a SINGER of Adam's caliber is more than enough - so, this point is actually contrary to my own view of the world so to speak). you got me to try and listen to Kelly's Stronger - another run of the mill tune - it sells? great! then why isn't BTIKM selling? why isn't it getting significant POP play? sounds EXACTLY the same to me... He needs to establish his own sound... his own MUSICAL identity - aside from "gay", "fashion crazy" and other such nonsense... the whole situation feels to me like his genius is bound by chains of the mediocre, spoon-fed-mass-consumption tastes and he MUST get out of them! take the fucking risk! Adam isn't a singer/songwriter (like Mayer, Mraz, etc). He is a Pop artist who co writes some of his songs. Radio listeners don't care if Adam co-writes on a song on Pop radio. Adam got a Grammy nom for WWFM and he refers to that as one of his proudest moments! It doesn't matter if a songwriter is a girl or a guy! Adele, Pink, and Gaga all write all of their music. Katy Perry co-writes on all of her songs. Rihanna doesn't! They have several worldwide multi-platinum hits and albums. Stronger is all over Pop and HAC stations. It is now crossing over to rhythmic and dance stations. Run of the mill? Nope, it was an INSTANT hit! The first time people heard it, they bought it. It didn't take 6 or 7 listens or a video to get people to like the song, it was automatic. There is obviously something about Stronger that is an instant, long-term #1 hit. BTIKM is not a Stronger. BTIKM is not even a WWFM. If it was, it would be doing better on itunes here and in other countries and Pop radio would be embracing it. Edited by mod

This is basically what I think happened, but I don't think Adam is unhappy about it. I believe he decided at first not to use the Bruno song, but when faced with the fact that this single was not going to be anywhere close to a WWFM- he decided to compromise. People do it everyday in every business and in this economy and the way the music business is going downhill, you have to make compromises! EVERY artist has to compromise, unless they are funding their own album on some Indie label. This is why I think the next single will be NCOE: Bruno did not give one of his songs to Adam without some type of guarantee from the label that they would use it as a single. Bruno is in the position now where he gets those types of "agreements" for one of his songs. He is a proven hitmaker.

ETA: I just noticed something interesting about the AI for CHR. It is up, even though spins are down. What does that mean? It probably means a small station stopped spinning it, with more spins than a big station that is spinning it with less spins. So, if that big station picks up its spins this week, like Boston, this drop could be a one week thing. Here is the AI from last week: .649 this week: .736 +.087 Some of the Top 40 US stations have slowed a little, but one is really dropping spins: KUDD-FM Salt Lake City Top 40 was spinning a lot and now is slowing down considerably, today it's -18 spins from the week before. This one station might be most of the cause? aralid thanks for the info, do you know when the movie comes out?

Tigerlily, I guess my point is that Adam already did compromise. The suits chose BTIKM even tho Adam wanted and expected Cuckoo. So now they are choosing what they think is their safe bet again. They are following the same pattern. If they were wrong the first time, why assume they are right this time. I hope they got input from US PDs this time.

For me I think Adam wasn't sure about Bruno's song when he was asked by Lyndsey Parker maybe because the production was not in the right direction yet, and he said he wasn't sure where it would fit in the album. I guess when he decided to have Dr. Luke & Bruno came in to re-arrange the production and made it better and that why he was excited it to have it included in the album, and not necessary be a single. It's maybe a single down the road, who knows...
I just have a feeling that it will be a of the tracks that the press people listened to it in UK, & US as for the next single.
