While I realize there is no evidence that another song would have done better (whether it be uptempo or mid tempo), if you look at the lack of success it had in countries like Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, that tells me it is the song and not Adam. These are countries and radio stations that love Adam. NZ even got Fever released as a single. For whatever reason, BTIKM didn't connect. Already, it seems to me that even with crappy sound both Cuckoo and Chokehold are getting a whole lot more love both in the fanbase and with more casual fans than BTIKM did.
Also, does anyone remember a post by RCA Ed way back when he talked about Adam and the HAC vs. Pop branding? Maybe it was when fans were pulling for Sleepwalker, I can't quite remember the timing. But, he made a statement at that time that it was important to position Adam as pop. It was just a brief statement, but I know it was discussed. Just adds to the mystery of leading off with BTIKM.

Thank you for sharing that GREAT conversation with the DJ, Hoopla! You were smart to take notes! How many times do we have to hear "we've never had a response like this to anyone!" before they start playing his music? I admit that I don't listen to the radio very much--but when I do have it on, I hear the same songs that I heard the last time I had it on. I am dying for that to be true about one of Adam's songs, but so far I feel lucky if I hear it once! You're welcome! I just wish every stop would include things like the Jezebel concert! More happy Adam fans, more people impressed by him! And, of course, I wish they'd play his music on high rotation! It's gonna happen sooner or later, though. Rihannsu, just have to say I loved your post about choosing and/or predicting singles. ITA. I can see why some peeps LIKE to play the "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" game, but that's an accurate description of what it is IMO. The only prediction I make is the obvious one: Adam's day will come. Maybe sooner than we think! |

Hoopla--I'm glad you rewrote your phone report. It was great. How frustrating to have deleted it last night when you first attempted. Feels scream worthy when that happens. LOL, oh, I screamed all right. :  My roommate ran in "What? What happened?" (and rolled her eyes when I told her!) Why is it that the post you lose is always better, too? HA! |
