myspenser - I've not reached the end of the thread yet but I'm getting a sore throat & starting to feel lousey so I don't know if I'll make it. Better post now. THIS is what I was trying to say when I said I didn't like the production. I love BTIKM, love Adam's vocals on it but do not like the drum beat at all. The overall production is what is holding the song down IMO. The Brad Walsh remix is so much better! I like your term "light". Also energetic is what I get from it. Dr. Luke was a mistake. Loved your post Hoopla1 recapping your conversation with the radio station. I wish more radio stations would talk (ON AIR) about the great response they are getting for him. And then play his music, whether it's the best single choice or not. Another one is coming guys! And it's gonna be GOOD! On the "down" side - am I the only one that doesn't really like those Starfish photos? Not that it matters as there are so many gorgeous photos of this gorgeous man out there! And rihannsu - I always find your posts interesting & informative! I think your years following U2 have given you insights into the music & radio business that many of us (certainly me) don't have. So many thanks & please keep posting. Actually it's more from reading a bunch of music artist biographies. You find out that even the artists and their management can't even figure out what worked and what didn't most of the time. One interesting one was Bob Geldof's description of the dog and pony show that radio was putting artists through to get airplay. He wouldn't play along so pretty much killed him in the US.Yes, I find this real interesting

I think the greatest gift Adam could bring to her wedding would be to perform, but given that he cannot make it, it is a mute point. I got married in US and had friends who were so nice as to perform. One is a professional too. I don't think it is unusual at all (on either side of the pond), but it is still very nice when it happens (assuming the friend is any good....of course) SCROLL ALERT small english lesson for general knowledge purposes. Sorry, not intending to pick on you specifically but since we have a lot of international peeps struggling with english on this board I thought I'd take the opportunity to point out a miss usage of a word that is common even among us native english speakers. Since it is something a spell checker wouldn't catch most people never notice even when it is just a typo. The word "mute" bolded in the above passage actually means unable to speak. But the intended word according to the context should be "moot" which in this case means obsolete or of no consequence. It's a mistake often made because slight similarity in pronunciation so that people who have only heard the word spoken often misspell it and the error is so common that it spreads further through common usage.

I would be happy with 20 weeks in the Top 10 on Pop radio!! ETA: Artists often preview new album tracks live to generate buzz for upcoming albums. Here is one example: www.nme.com/news/the-killers/38526Recently Daughtry did it. Lady Gaga has done it multiple times. Springsteen did it. The odd thing to me was Adam was at a radio promo and did not perform BTIKM -- the song being promoted. I cannot recall a radio showcase like this that did not include a performance of the single. but Jezebel wasn't particularly meant to be a station promo, was it? It was a private party for a magazine, although there was a radio DJ involved as a host and a few tickets given away by that station. I feel like I've seen a fair number of songs leaked first in youtube live versions, but they rarely get covered above the low level gossip/pop blogs unless it's a really big name star. If you look at the hit counts on the Jezebel videos, they have probably been noticed by the hardcore fandom, but not outside it. I was not clear at all -- more accurately -- I find it odd that Adam did not do the single he was in the midst of doing a radio promo tour to promote at an event that was being promoted by a radio station and that was set up to be a PR event for Jezebel. Granted the song is a bit slow for a party event. The Jezebel event was a private event and not connected to RCA -- and it was the fourth private event where Adam has done some new music - in Montreal, Austria and Vail, and now in Atlanta. (I may have missed some.) --- I agree with you on the coverage of the 3 New Songs -- 31 online news articles about them and viewcount on videos is mostly just core fans -- Cuckcoo has about 35K views on YT (top 4 videos) and I found it on many other video services - so it might move beyond but I sort of doubt most people will notice.

Just looked it up on Amazon and it apparently isn't in print so only used copies available for more than I would be willing to pay for sure. Wish I could remember detail but when he was doing promo in the states there would be these corporate radio events where the artist were basically expected to kiss ass and if you didn't jump through whatever hoops they demanded you didn't get played. Granted this was 70's 80's but you know the saying "the more things change the more things stay the same". Other artist bios I've read have enough similar stories about the vaguaries of radio and record labels that even if you only believe a small portion it still is a totally fucked up situation.

I just requested BTIKM at my local station KLLC San Francisco, and when I told her I wanted to request BTIKM by Adam Lambert, she said, "Of course you do.. ".. hmmm odd thing for her to say.. hope that means she's getting lots of requests or it! ;D

While I realize there is no evidence that another song would have done better (whether it be uptempo or mid tempo), if you look at the lack of success it had in countries like Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, that tells me it is the song and not Adam. These are countries and radio stations that love Adam. NZ even got Fever released as a single. For whatever reason, BTIKM didn't connect. Already, it seems to me that even with crappy sound both Cuckoo and Chokehold are getting a whole lot more love both in the fanbase and with more casual fans than BTIKM did. Also, does anyone remember a post by RCA Ed way back when he talked about Adam and the HAC vs. Pop branding? Maybe it was when fans were pulling for Sleepwalker, I can't quite remember the timing. But, he made a statement at that time that it was important to position Adam as pop. It was just a brief statement, but I know it was discussed. Just adds to the mystery of leading off with BTIKM. Late to the party here but ITA since countries like Canada, NZ and Oz - primed for a #1 Adam hit - not able to do it with BTIKM. NZ insisted on getting Fever released as a single and Canada got Sleepwalker (but only given a 4+ minute without radio edit, so too long for DJs to play). We LOVE Adam in Canada and did manage to get the BTIKM vid to #1, but not the single. Sad, because it's a gorgeous song and will be loved as part of Trespassing album especially since Adam says clearly it represents the two parts of himself and the two parts of his album. Feels like fans are anxiously awaiting single #2 and better radio support to ride the rocket.

In a prior professional life (before I opted for a saner path) I did a lot of radio promo work -- it is a totally fucked up business for everyone -- not just the artists. But I think the major labels are the worst part of the music business -- and with consolidation it is worse than ever. There are really only two companies running the global music creation and distribution business now -- Universal and Sony. Two companies creates a situation where a very small group of very senior execs has too much control.

Thanks again, 4Msrmyn, for the cool slideshow! For me, it's a great souvenir of the day. Hoopla, what an encouraging conversation with the DJ! Thanks for sharing it. Neat that you'll have an opportunity to e-mail her your thoughts directly. I'm really interested about peeps who have gotten to see him--MISHA/MAYUMI--was the event at the actual station? Were fans waiting outside for Adam when you got there/left? I wrote a recap at the end of yesterday's thread, but I forgot to mention the location of the event. It wasn't held at the station but at the Buckhead Theatre, a concert venue here in Atlanta. Star 94 announced the location of the Buckhead Theatre from the very beginning in their online promo and on the radio. But a couple of days before the event, I heard a DJ say once on air that the meet and greet would be held in a "secret location" (maybe because they'd received such an overwhelming response and wanted with this fakeout to discourage people from just showing up). But they went back to announcing the location as the Buckhead Theatre because I guess, well, the cat had already been out of the bag for a long time. Star 94 did a really good job hosting the event. Even though the meet and greet wasn't held at the station, shortly before it started there was an influx of people (maybe five or six) who didn't seem to be contest winners, but employees who wanted to see Adam. We had lunch in the concert room at the theater, and then moved into the lobby area for Adam's performance and Q&A. There was a big window behind us and anyone standing outside would be able to look directly in at Adam. The station photos only show two women peeking in through the window, but when we entered the room I seem to remember a larger crowd, and there were definitely screams for Adam from more than two people outside at the end of the event.
