I was the one who asked about the remixes affecting iTunes position. I FORGOT that it was AO not iTunes. Would it have been smarter to sell through itunes to bump up chart position?
So the remixes sold on AO will count toward sales but when will we ever be able to get that number? Estimation by comparing to similar country positions that BM posts is for iTunes & still wouldn't include the remixes.

nica575, does this mean that streaming @vevo doesn't count? I have BTIKM streaming continuously 24 hours a day. Should I now stream from Spotify instead or in addition to?

No it doesn't mean that at all, this is more data being added. The methods of tracking streaming that they are already using do not track the things that this new service tracks. |

rihannsu: We won't have to worry about GLEE for a while since it is on hiatus for a few weeks. The Idol downloads don't show up on the itunes charts. ETA: lol Sorry, I corrected it! My fingers automatically went to rihanna. I'm still working on saying Gelly in my head instead of Jelly after all these months of getting it wrong! LOL, that's ok somebody else here routinely sticks an extra a somewhere in there. ;D ;D ;D That's why whenever I don't use quote I copy and paste the names so I don't screw anybody up. LOL |

Billboard, Nielsen and NARM's digitalmusic.org announced today the launch of the first-ever subscription services "On-Demand Songs" chart, and that this data will also be included in the Billboard Hot 100. On-demand streaming data is now factored into the chart's ranking, enhancing a formula that includes digital download track sales and physical singles sales, as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan; as well as radio airplay and other streaming services, as tracked by Nielsen BDS.
This new Billboard chart, in coordination with digitalmusic.org's Subscription Music Work Group, and powered by Nielsen BDS, which began tracking streaming activity in 2005, measures every on-demand play request and plays from unlimited listener-controlled radio channels on MOG, Muve Music, Rdio, Rhapsody, Slacker and Spotify; data from Zune and Sony Music Unlimited is expected to be added in the coming weeks. The plays tracked for the On-Demand Songs chart include streams and tethered downloads by both paying and free/trial tier users. Through the first 70 days of 2012, Nielsen BDS has captured more than 4.5. billion audio streams.

I think we should be streaming as many sources as possible ;D VEVO is monetized for the artist - so we should be definitely playing there! Although the way they count PLAYS is not clear. I remember reading here on ATOP, that constant replaying might not be counted - I have no idea if it is true or not... Otherwise- I am reacting to the article on the Billboard's attention to streaming services... I think Spotify generates $s for the artist as well... |
