It is strange for me to think of BTIKM as a hit. In my world, it isn't. Chicago, and much of the Midwest is not even hearing this song. I have heard it exactly once on the radio, and that was when I happened to be in the car when U-Mix-It got it a spin. The song is doing fine on HAC, and with time, who knows how high it could go? But, can they afford to devote all Spring to this song? I don't think so.
Right now, I am hoping they get the second single out, and to CHR, soon. Doesn't mean I don't like BTIKM. But, I think the album will need a CHR single to get it off to a good start. And I am sure, if Adam is in NY for meetings, then this will be worked
The media does love Adam. But his level of "stardom" varies by region. I don't think Chicago media considers him to be a big star. Months ago, I listened to some DJ's on WTMX discuss the "problems" of AI and one actually stated that the show hasn't had a star since Daughtry.
Big picture---Adam is talented, hard-working, and INCREDIBLY driven. He will make it. Of that, I am sure. I just get impatient.

But you see that is the problem with anecdotal stories like that you have to look at the overall picture. U2 has been pretty much THE biggest band in the world since the Rolling Stones but even in 2005 when they had just swept all 5 categories they were nominated in at the Grammy's for a total of 22 (more than half of which came in the previos 6 year period), been inducted in to the R&R Hall of Fame, and were in the middle of a huge world wide tour I would say only about a quarter of my customer base had ever heard of them and some only knew Bono from his philanthropic work. When gauging popularity you have to look at the overall picture. Adam Lambert is a pop culture reference. People totally outside of the music industry reference things about him because there is an expectation that people will know what they are talking about. Everybody's level of stardom varies even HUGE iconic acts like U2.

The average person on the street would probably think Bieber has tons of #1 hits given his high profile and visibility yet his songs are more around top 15 range. There is lots of buzz about Adam and about his album and that buzz is as important to sales as any chart position on radio." The average person thinks Bieber is a big deal, because he is. Those songs of his were top 15 range on CHR. He has sold millions of singles and albums worldwide and sells out arena size concerts all over the world. Buzz is important, but you either need to have a long history of great albums and singles (like U2), have a tween girl fanbase (Bieber and One Direction), or you need to have radio hits. Buzz is nice, but it needs to have something to back it up if you are looking for a boost for album sales. Adele is a once in every decade occurrence. Fans of every artist should stop using her as an example, because she is the RARE exception and not the rule. They sure don't, but they know if they hear it on their local radio stations several times a day. BTIKM is not a hit song- only fans would consider it as such. It is a modest hit on HAC. It needs to get in the top 5 or so on HAC to even be considered an HAC hit, and it needs to have a decent presence on CHR.

Singing with Queen twice (or even a few more times) can't be the be all and end all to Adam's career. It is an amazing opportunity and accomplishment, but it's not all that Adam wants to be known for. Adam wants his own music career with his own music and I want that for him as well. Perhaps you are mistaking me for a Bieber fan. ::)I can assure you that I do not own one drop of his music in any form and I never intend to change that fact. I'm discussing the reason that Bieber can get away with having minimal Pop airplay and still sell millions of singles and albums. Adam does not have the same luxury that the Biebs has in this situation. That's the point, not that Bieber is in any way better than Adam. The "Apples and Oranges" meme doesn't apply here.

I agree w Melliemom, it's a great honor but honor isn't selling #1 hits for his music or albums. The single BTIKM is not doing it right now so I said above, I believe we need to move on and release #2 whatever that is. He needs hits on the radio to sell his album - it's as simple as that.

Quite honestly i'm lost here.. I love Adam,I believe he's a star,I don't believe every single he puts out will sell millions, and I don't think his career depends on one thing or another. Just a fan who accepts him with or without what is perceived as a hit.I also know from the many articles I have read that cds are a good selling point to get people to your concerts ,where the major money for singers is made.So what is is ,I continue on without angst.
