While on YT listening to the BTIKM video, on the side they listed this one. Posted by "vocalcoach." Curious, I clicked on it and saw the singer is a teacher at a studio. Um, really? I am posting it here as an example to show how difficult the song is --- even for a female who should have an easier time with the high notes than a male. In the chorus, she takes the melody down rather than going up for the highest notes. She can't reach them with her belting voice, which sounds very much like yelling to me. Her pitch is also a bit shaky throughout the song. This video, shot in a studio, with a mic, and probably with multiple takes, is not nearly as good as Adam singing in a meeting room, off the cuff, on the spot, with no mic at all. The comparison just shows you how good Adam is. Very pitchy... WOW. Im quite intrigued by the comparison of the two performances. On the positive side, at the start I find her voice has its own attracting emotional layer. There's a kind of resonance or expansiveness in it for a moment. But she loses that so quickly. And it really makes me think: Just what a master builder Adam is with that voice of his. He has honed it into the instrument of the finest, nuanced far-ranging expressiveness. Moreover, when Adam sings, his presence and his soul - which comes through in peoples voices I think - is so amazing. Listening to Adam, centres me and opens me. Most singers are far more jejune and "normal". Its funny but I think the arts - singing, writing, all of it - dont allow you to escape "who you are" - they make it the foundation of your work. It sort of reminds me of that old adage - if you want to be a great musician, go out and live [lifetimes]. The guy's a miracle.

Ah. Let me clarify. Yes, of course there is a mic to pick up the sound. Otherwise we would have no sound on the video. But there is no mic to amplify or modify his voice. We are talking about two different systems for two different purposes. One for sending the sound into a speaker system to be heard by the audience in the room, and another to record the sound for playback on the radio or other media. It is possible that there is a hanging mic for recording purposes. Tho why they would use one to record is a mystery. If they are recording for radio broadcast, they would want the mic as close as possible to the sound source for the purest sound without any interference or background noises. They would not use a room mic. However, I hear the motor of the camera zoom on this video which tells me the mic that is recording this sound for the video is on the camera itself. That motor sound and a few clicks of the camera would not be picked up by a mic at a distance. You are correct that when Adam powers up for the big notes he blows out the camera mic. It cannot handle that sound intensity, and the sound is distorted. In another video today during the sound check, Adam expresses concern that the mic they are using to record the sound for the radio might not be able to handle his power notes. He expressly sings a bit of the chorus just to make sure they can modulate the sound intensity and avoid feedback or distortion. In the sound check Tommy asks if he should unplug the guitar as they are doing the session without amplification. Adam says to keep it plugged in for the radio recording. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hi Cassie, I enjoy your posts and that expertise you have on sound. Can you please tell me a link for the other video you are referring to? - the soundcheck one. Thanks! Thanks, anjalee. It's from the Coca-Cola performance earlier today. I don't know that the whole thing is on YT in one piece. But, you can download it here: www.mediafire.com/?49gyc14pp11pqqu The sound check is at the very beginning. Then, you have to fast forward to about 14.45 to see the start of the actual broadcast. It is all wonderful. I did find just the sound check part on YT, tho the picture isn't quite as clear.

Hoopla Magnet @hooplamagnet Adam Lambert performs "Better Than I Know Myself" at B96 Studios in Chicago (by Ward 1 Design) NEW PERFORMANCE Cassie this is the one you wanted vimeo.com/38663037Can someone please make an mp3 for this one??? OMG... his voice is AMAZING.. without microphone or anything... Adam's voice is great but the guitar just ruins it, I have to listen past it to get to Adam's voice. No slamming TJ and probably a function of where the person recording it was sitting. So for me (for you for me) there are other acoustic versions I like better. Glad others are enjoying though.

I have to disagree that there is no mike.. i think there's one above and in front of them. You can hear the blow out and electronic distortion when Adam increases his volume... Also, at one point near the beginning, tommy looks up.. that's where he'd be looking if there was a boom or hanging mike... I can't prove it but it appears that way to me. Ah. Let me clarify. Yes, of course there is a mic to pick up the sound. Otherwise we would have no sound on the video. But there is no mic to amplify or modify his voice. Is Adam taking the weekend off and going home? Anybody know? I also want to know if he calls Sauli when he is away and says "goodnight" "I love you." I certainly hope so. Don't you? This is too personal a question, right? personal, but theres no common guidebook for the new 21st century celebrity sphere. Do you want the I love you scenario to be true because you want to think of him as happy? Yes and NO...is he happy...YES. ..I want to think of it as a Skype event...better-er than phone sex...it is love sex!!!
